I read this for a class and this is the second time that I've read THUG. It gets a 5 stars because it made me cry again for the second time which rarely happens for me.
Graphic: Child death, Racism, Police brutality, and Murder
Minor: Toxic friendship
There are some pretty big content warnings for this book, but the book deals with all of them in an in depth way. The content of this book is not done by accident and it has a purpose. It just might mean it isn't the right story for you if you're not in the right headspace for them and that's okay. Take care of yourself out there.
Really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It helped get me through my final days of undergrad. There wasn't much of the miscommunication causes issues trope, amd I found that the main couple seemed really stable throughout. (Stability is a thing I need right now as my life is going through a lot of changes XD). There was a lot more family drama elements than I was expecting, but I found it to be cathartic. However if you are sensitive to plot points surrounding loosing a parent/parents having cancer, then you might want to skip this one. Also there was the cult element that Gus was researching which added a very strange feeling to the plot that I don't normally feel in other stories. It wasn't too off putting for me and it doesn't delve too far into the dark side of the cult (only quick mentions) but it's still there and might not be what others want added in their escapism story time.
