I enjoyed some of the information this book gave but as a whole it was poorly written. If I read the word bespoke another time I was going to scream. I also found it an interesting diss that Kim Kardashian wasn't mentioned once.😂 He was great for the fashion business and should not be forgotten. I just wish his biography had been written by someone else.
This memoir is well-written and contains many examples around race and people identifying race either for themselves or other people, however in the end I felt like the author was turning around in circles, asking more questions than answering them. His idea of people not having to be identified by race is interesting but utopic.I believe because he is mixed race, married to a white French woman and living in Paris he is in a privileged position to talk about this subject. Living in France where people don't talk about race at all doesn't mean the signs and cues in conversations and looks aren't there. I urge people to read the book because I believe it can start some important discussions on race.

Despite all of the trigger warnings Rabbit Run is an excellent book to read for the writing craft. I enjoyed looking at how Updike was going to move this story of a self-centred misogynistic young man trying to escape his responsibilities in 1959.
This is an engaging story that is easy to read and is a retelling of the classic novel Jane Eyre. It's set during the mid to late 1800s. The protagonist's voice is written in that style and flows beautifully in 1st person.
I was really disappointed by this novella. There is no plot and no character development. There wasn't enough to really get me to see the importance of this story. I'm still trying to figure out what the author wanted the readers to understand. Depressing story!
