This is book 14 in the D.I Lottie Parker series. I didn’t realise it was a book series and have only read book 1 previously. I feel they can be read as a standalone as I didn’t feel I was missing out. It doesn’t focus hugely on the characters backstories but I’d still like to read the others as it seems like a good series to get stuck into. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Lottie has really come into her own as a character when I compare her to the first book. There is really strong character development along with an intriguing storyline that really builds the suspense. Just when you think you’re in reach of what’s going on your left hanging but in a way that adds to your experience as the reader. I loved how it all came together and even more so the many the surprises along the way. Definitely recommend.

DNF - I’ve read so many rave reviews on this one and felt I was missing out. I was looking forward to getting stuck in but unfortunately at 40% it’s a DNF from me. It’s described as a creepy horror but I didn’t get that at all and it’s extremely slow paced with annoying characters. Unfortunately I was bored to tears and life is too short and far too many other books to get stuck into.

Another great read from H.K. Christie. This is the second in the Val Costa book series. I flew through it was hooked from the beginning. It’s a fast paced easy read with lots of surprises along the way. Interesting storyline that I didn’t see coming. Val is definitely coming into her own as a character and I’m loving her. This book series has really well developed characters that are lovable in their own ways along with storylines that bring something different in their own ways. There is a current storyline running in the background of the first 2 books that I’m loving as it keeps the interest as it never quite gets there 😉. I love a book that doesn’t just tie up conveniently and everyone lives happily ever after.

🎧 This is the first in the D.I Lottie Parker series. It’s an interesting storyline that will hold your attention - mostly. I felt it was far too drawn out and needs do be way shorter as it felt like it dragged at times. The storyline and characters are well developed for the most part but I’m hoping as the series progresses that Lottie will come into her own as at the moment she isn’t an endearing character and a little all over the place for a main character. The narrator was engaging and did a good job. It has the potential to be a great series as it progresses. I will look forward to the next instalment.

On starting this I felt I was listening to Nina Prose ‘The Maid’ as there was huge similarities until there wasn’t. I found I just couldn’t connect with the characters or the storyline. I considered DNFing several times but I just can’t have unfinished business. The storyline has a past and present timeline and it switches easily. For me the storyline was predictable from the off and I knew more or less where it was going. The narrator did a great job at keeping me engaged but the storyline just fell short for me. I found it underwhelming and it just wasn’t for me.

This was a fast paced, easy read that I couldn’t put down. It was an interesting storyline if a little far fetched at tikes. It’s a page turner with many a twist and turn. It’s well developed and cleverly written that it keeps you guessing. Brooke was a little annoying as a character when it came to her naivety and working things out. The ending felt a little rushed but it came together ok. It was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.

This is the first instalment in the Val Costa series and couldn’t put this one down. I was hooked from the first couple of pages. Really intriguing storyline that just kept you wanting more. Loved the characters especially Val as I’m a sucker for a strong female character. It’s cleverly written that it builds the suspense and just gives you enough to keep you interested. You get a great insight into how the FBI work and the procedures they go through. Loved this one and even better I’ve found a new book series and have the next in the series ready to go…. If you are a fan of crime thrillers this is a read for you.

This one throws you straight in and moves at a steady pace but I just couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to get to the truth. It unfolds in a ‘Now’ & ‘Then’ timeline which definitely adds to the suspense and builds the momentum. I can’t say I loved the characters but I didn’t not like them either. I did find Laura really irritated me at times. It’s a well developed cleverly written storyline that unfolds superbly. The characters are well developed characters that you feel you get to see what makes them tick. It comes together as it should with no questions left unanswered.

🎧 Set on the Greek Island Hydra and you can just see the picturesque surroundings as you listen. This has a little bit of everything - family drama, secrets, beautiful lyrics, sadness and the feel good factor along with many the regret. The narration was spot on and brought that something extra (you’ll see what I mean when you listen). I loved all the characters but will admit it took me awhile to warm to Georgia. It’s a fast paced, eventful listen that keeps you on your toes. Really enjoyed this one more than I thought.

🎧 This one isn’t not much different to other similar storylines. It’s one of those listens that you know what’s coming but you continue on in the hope there’ll be a few surprises along the way. I really liked the characters of Sol and Erik and the different antics they got up to were enjoyable enough. It’s a listen that you don’t need to pay much attention to if your mind wanders. It’s a little slow to start but it does pick up the pace. The Dutch culture and being based in Copenhagen was an interesting touch and the feel good aspect is another thing it has going for it.
