How I wish there had been stories like this published by mainstream publishers when I was a kid. This book is an honest and gentle story of personhood and change. Even characters we are meant to hate or distrust are treated with grace. I read it in one sitting. Well done.

Want some wholesome boys learning to love each other? This is the book for you.
We love no 3rd act breakup! The tension of this book was so reasonable and centered not on Carter and Zeke's relationship but instead on Carter's desire to play professional hockey. I found this so much more satisfying than the traditional "my parents hate me for being queer" trope that is often used in queer romances.

My only wish is that Zeke had been a trans man, but I'll survive. A hockey romance with a trans love interest though? Sign me immediately up.

Holy medium-burn friends-to-lovers found family fake relationship one bed mental health rep, Batman!

This was cute as hell, with a fun writing style and engaging characters. The story unfolded just like our favorite trashy reality TV. Being moderate is always the enemy: be queer and extra and know your worth!

An excellent summertime read.

This novella reads like an epilogue to “How We End,” which isn’t a bad thing, just a tragedy because it doesn’t include Jake and his found family 🤣 It fills out the world in an interesting and helpful way. It was a fast read, so I’m not sure how it’s supposed to help me survive until “How We Survive” hits bookshelves.
