You can't convince me that this didn't start as a Marauder's fanfiction about Snape and James. And I am surprisingly here for it.

It's nice to see that Hazelwood can do more than just STEM romance novels, but I wish her formula wasn't so obvious. You can just tell when certain plot points are gonna hit and it kinda takes the joy out of it knowing what's coming next.

Still a good light hearted read though.

Being an avid viewer of the show (I used to schedule work and school around episode premieres) I was very disappointed that I had never been able to read the books. I am now lucky to have a library that appears to have the whole series. I know towards the end, it deviated a lot from the books, but I am excited to explore that for the first time myself (in this form).

Edit: I totally forgot, but I did read a digital copy of this book that for some reason changed a bunch of the dated cultural references and replaced them with new ones like TikTok. This wouldn't be a problem if a) they changed every single reference and b) if the outdated references weren't so integral to the plot. A blackmailing the girls only works for so long due to how new cell phones were. Also some really REALLY outdated references like QVC was left in and just made your head scratch. Just a weird observation.

I had avoided this book for years and years, mostly because of the hype and being a Greek classic nerd, I felt the book was already spoiled to hell and back. (And I'm not a big fan of the dead gay trope and knew that that was going to happen).

But it still made me cry. I think it has something to do with having a parent that did not accept me as gay and you could make the argument, with two lines to spare, Thetis becomes accepting of her son and her son's lover, allowing them eternity forever. This hits hard as my dad is dead and I never told him I was gay for fear of him not accepting me. Hell after I learned I was gay, I stopped reaching out.

It just hits in the feels. Really wish I had read this sooner.
