Honestly, I just couldn’t get into this book.  While I liked the unique aspects of it such as the formatting I just couldn’t fully grasp what was happening until a good chunk into the book.  I think this book would be great for some people but I just wasn’t one of them.  It was kinda a mess for me but for the right person I could definitely see why someone would like it.

While I kinda got into this at the start, traveling away after a breakup to go cat sit only to realize all too late you’re allergic to cats… it was pretty funny and I liked the main character but about chapter four-ish it got a bit too Hallmark movie for me.  Small town where everyone knows each other with a woman who is living out her life as if it were a television show.

I just couldn’t get into it much, the characters kinda got on my nerves and I just didn’t really care for most of them.

This probably would have been a lot better if I read the other books in this series but I got this for free on Stuff Your Kindle Day and thought I’d try it.  I didn’t realize it was a novella.  It wasn’t horrible, but I have no idea what I just read.  It felt like it could have just been added to one of the books in the series instead of just being on its own.

Holy shit.  This book was so messed up and the revenge was served exactly what the dad was cun—and the epilogue was so good.  This book had lots of dark topics and severe religious bigotry and the trauma linked to it.  Thea taking on the rage of making those who harmed her hurt just like she did, the scene with the broom really WAS fully appropriate for what all she endured.

I highly suggest reading the acknowledgments for this book.

The sad background to how Vincent became a vampire.  Heartbreaking, reckless, and lonely.  It’s so nice to know things do get better for him eventually in the novel “How to Bite Your Neighbor and Win a Wager” at least because the poor dude deserves a happy ending.

♡ Found Family
♡ Badass Horse
♡ Entertaining Adventure

Dekker and his family were so wholesome.  I loved seeing how well Ungr and Dekker’s friendship grew and the trust they had for each other.  This book had the most adventure and overall things happening so far with this series.  From close calls, and death in the air, to hunting down a wizard, life on the run hasn’t had a dull moment.  Veikr being the best horse ever was also a bonus, the ribbons were a nice touch.

This book really helped set the stage for the series.  I really liked how Ungr has a bit of a found family moment as well.  I really enjoyed this read, it was tense and entertaining.

♡ Angsty Vibes
♡ Re-telling of Hamlet
♡ Amazing Formatting

I never really thought I’d like classical re-tellings as much as I do but this one was so entertaining.  The formatting of this book was absolutely stunning and so unique to anything I’ve ever read.  It really showed how scrambled and chaotic Benjamin’s thoughts were.

This book had queer and neurodivergent characters all throughout and I really loved the different point of views; Benjamin’s being my favorite.

Having said that this is still a Shakespeare re-telling so it’s filled to the brim with tragedy.  It has twists and turns and a plot that took me admittedly too long to understand.  But I really enjoyed reading this book.

♡ Mutual Pinning
♡ Queer Vampires
♡ Emotional Hurt/Comfort

This book was so heartfelt.  The mutual pinning and heartbreak of things changing around Teal and Eric.

The character development really shined in this book.  Relationships growing and dynamics changing.  This book was spicy and had all the elements of an emotional hurt/comfort tag you could ask for.  I also found myself liking Moth a bit more in this book which I mean I liked him in the first book but he felt more vulnerable and I just really enjoyed his character.

I do kinda hope for another book with how this ended I need to know what happens next.

A huge thank you to the authors for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

♡ Always on the Run
♡ Old Western Vibes
♡ The Best Horse Ever

I actually liked this a lot more than I was thinking I would.  The setting and characters really instantly had my attention.  I read most of it in one sitting.

This had an old western vibe with fantasy mixed in there with it.  I really liked the moments the wanderer talked to the dead souls with the pendent, it was such a cool idea.
