"Maybe we're like a cherry blossom, Rune. Like shooting stars. Maybe we loved too much too young and burned so bright that we had to fade out."
After reading this book, I know why some people said you either cry or cringe. Because I feel both way. Don't get me wrong, I cried, really. But I'm not a big fan of some aspects of the story.
First of all, not gonna lie, at some point Rune Erik Kristiansen is cute. I love the way he loves Poppy with his entire heart. But realistically, which 15 yo boy actually acts and talks like Rune? This guy is possessive as hell. "I kissed her every day since I was eight" yeah no shit you probably didn't even let her play with other boys and man, you were still a child, can you chill?? I didn't like 17 yo Rune. The 'bad boy' Rune, Poppy might call him and I swear to God I hate when she keeps saying that, enough with the bad boy talk. Sometimes he's rude, I even found a.. I don't know if it's considered slut-shaming but "... as soon as some slut from Oslo flirts with me." Again, Rune, you need to chill.
Now Poppy Litchfield, not much thoughts but she reminds me a lot of Jamie Sullivan from A Walk to Remember. I like how she always being positive and happy and enjoy life but she's sometimes a little too quirky.
Knowing that this is a childhood friends to lovers, I just know the plot will be sad. Rune and Poppy were best friends since they're five, Poppy's grandmother gave her a jar to fill with a thousand boy kisses. That's original, I like that. But then I cringed a lot after because of all the cheese thrown everywhere. The conversations annoys me sometimes because it's repetitive and don't sound like something a 17 yo would say. The worst part that made me cringe so hard is they're doing it at 15 years old. FIFTEEN. YEARS. OLD. THAT'S MY AGE, YOUNGER EVEN. I don't care if it's a normal thing in the US or that they love each other so much, they're still minors. And it made me so uncomfortable. And it's predictable, I knew immediately why Poppy was gone for two years and why she didn't want to tell Rune and what's gonna happen to her. The plot turns out to be not as heart-wrenching as I thought it would be but it still made me cry especially the epilogue, that's when I burst into tears.
I'm not a big fan of the writing style either for some reasons. This story might be good for a younger audience but the thing is I'm still so young and still not a big fan...

This review contains spoiler!
My first impressions of the characters are why does Aiden Cook suddenly talks about his personal life to a stranger and why does Stella Schmidt doesn't run away immediately? She even still applied for the job knowing that she'll meet that creep again.
Speaking of the job, the power differential kinda bothers me. Aiden is the boss, of course, and I think it's just unfair of him to let all applicants get a chance to get interviewed only because of Stella. Like no matter who Stella is, she will be hired anyway. Only because he wanted to meet her again while she's literally an ex-convict but he's hiding that, she still has a history of robbing and he wants her to work at a store? Ironic. It just seems unprofessional though I know he's the "everyone deserves a second chance" type of person.
I know Stella was in prison for 4 years and Aiden was at home because of pandemic (yes it's 2021), but why the hell are they so horny?? Like Aiden literally get turned on easily whatever Stella is doing but he frustrates me a lot of times in some scenes. He doesn't know what he wanted: to have sex with his employee or not when she's in his hands already. If I were Stella I'd kick that man out of my house and never letting him in again. He even thought of marrying her right away like MAN? CHILL?
And Stella, girl, I have to say, you have a really weird kink. Bow tie? Have a better fashion sense, Sweetheart. Aunt Edna's stories? I feel bad for Aunt Edna.
This isn't a reverse grumpy sunshine trope too. Yes, she probably dress like a gothic girl and was kinda grumpy in the beginning but I'm pretty sure she was grumpy because Aiden was so weird, and still weird. But the rest she's a sunshine. Aiden, on the other hand, is an annoying sunshine.
Last one, their "I love you"s in the epilogue is weird. You can't tell me otherwise.

“You don’t like them?”
“Not a bit,” he says. “Mint chocolate is foul.”
“Then why do you have mint chocolate M&Ms?”
“Because I saw them at the grocery store after work today and thought of you and bought them.”
That scene that I saw from booktok video convinced me enough to read this novella. I mean, mint chocolate lover girl? That's me. Having a guy who appreciates my love for mint chocolate is what I need. And guess what, I love it so much. The enemies to lovers, the banters, the slow burn, the You've Got Mail references (which is the best).
I'm gonna start with Gabriella Di Natale because why not? She's amazing. I can see Kathleen Kelly in her: how she loves the bookstore so much, it's like a second home to her, but her business brain isn't the best, still great but isn't the best. She loves peppermint cocoa and I'd be glad to give her a high five for that, also has the best taste in romance books. And also... in love with a stranger online.
Jonathan Frost, on the other hand, didn't like romance until someone made him read Jane Austen. This man is something. Remembers Gab's weird (it isn't weird but to him it is) drink order, reads Gab's favorite romance books, change his cologne because he knows Gab can't handle strong scents, and keeps a mint choco candy because Gab likes them although he hates them. Oh and he bought a Christmas tree because Gab is festive while he's agnostic. OH AND HE BOUGHT THE BOOKSTORE AS THEIR WEDDING GIFT??? Can this man be any more perfect? Is there even a real man like Jonathan Frost?
I love the chemistry between the two characters in fact I might be obsessed THEY'RE JUST THE CUTEST??? I'm not even counting all the scenes that gave me butterflies when I read them.
This book has all the trope that I love and again I mention this again but it's literally You've Got Mail but make it Christmas which is my favorite movie ever. Enemies to lovers? Check. Slow burn? Check. Workplace rivals? Check. Grumpy and sunshine? Check. A perfect hero? Check. Not to mention it has a good representation for autism, demisexual, and type 1 diabetes.
I don't celebrate Christmas but hey, Santa, one Jonathan Frost for me, please?

“I don't need snowflakes. As long as there's January.“
A story about a romance writer who believes in happy ending and a literary fiction writer who always see the dark side of a story. They met. They made a bet to swap genres and see which book will be more famous. Sounds promising? Yes, it does sounds promising. Is the execution good?
Let's start with the characters. January Andrews, she's the sunshine who always see the brighter side including to her father or her family in general. She sacrificed her time for her mother who has a cancer. And there's Augustus Everett, the polar opposite of January: the realist who always see the darker side. And yes, you guess it right, I'll be talking about this guy a lot.
Gus has a problematic childhood with his abusive father (yes, another father-child relationship and not a good one). He's full of secrets and is good at keeping them. Apart from his dark side, you will probably be in love with the bright side of Augustus Everett. First of all, this man has read all books written by January and memorized her books dedication *breathe* *screams on a pillow*. Ok, I could go give you a list of all other things Gus did that will make you screams on a pillow:
- He'd come late to class so he could choose his seat based on where you sit
- Rushed after class so he could walk with you
- Borrow pens and drop books so you would notice me Yeah... He's an idiot when it comes to love, to January. Ok maybe one more won't hurt, he said this, and once again, I screamed.
“When I watch you sleep,” he said shakily, “I feel overwhelmed that you exist.”
I like their chemistry: how they grow together from their loneliness. And the banter feels funny and natural. I wouldn't say they're enemies. They were kinda enemies, few years back, but mainly more rivals.
And the other characters, first there's Shadi, the supportive best friend of January, I love her. I have no comments for January's dad. I don't like Sonya and it's obvious why, I respect her explanation, but I still don't like her. And January's mom deserves better, I hope to see more of her but it isn't her story.
Speaking of isn't her story, I'm still confused with the mood of this book. It should be romance, isn't it? Judging by the title it supposed to be a light story but as you can tell by the characters description, it's darker. There's even one scene where Gus and Janie went on a cult, it's dead but still... They interview someone from the cult. It's all over the place. I feel like the romance between Gus and January isn't the main plot, more like Andrews' family secret. Well, the father-daughter relationship was intense, not gonna lie, but why do I feel like it appears more than it should be?
My favorite scenes would probably the bookshelf scene ;) and The Rain (Chapter 27). I love that they use Meg Ryan as Gus' references for romcom and A Walk to Remember reference? LOVE. It's kinda boring during the middle part but I still had a good time reading it.
Added more points to the rating because of Gus and their romantic scenes. Dedicating one index mark color for Gus' scenes is one of my best decisions. And oh, I like this way more than People We Meet on Vacation... But I still don't enjoy it that much, the author's writing style probably isn't my favorite. Ok last one, ending this review with another Augustus Everett quote.
“I’ve never met someone who is so perfectly my favorite person. When I think about being with you every day, no part of me feels claustrophobic.”

"We liked the idea of having a Halloween anniversary, since weren't relationships a little spooky?
Here we go again with another review which half of it only talks about the guy character, but we'll do that later.
First off, the plot. I like the idea of the concept: a workplace rivals to lovers at a radio station company. But unfortunately I'm not really satisfied with the execution. I don't feel the hating tension going on between the two characters. To me it's just Shay being mad because Dominic did such a great job doing what she always wanted to do, she was jealous. The first few chapters are a bit boring, it feels so slow, but it gets better when the show is started. I always pretend that I'm Shay in the transcript chapters. If there's an actual podcast like The Ex Talk I would definitely listen to it. The ending is super cute especially the love confession but not so satisfied about the enemy, he deserves... nothing, tbh.
Shay Goldstein is a 29 years old woman who has been working as a radio show producer for 10 years. Shay was trying to figure out her adult life, living alone, far from family and friends, and that she hasn't find the one. I know she's going to be 30 soon and she's older than Dominic but she acts like she and Dom has a huge age difference. Like... it's only 5 years?? Sometimes she acts like he's still a high school student and she's the teacher.
Okay, Dominic Yun. I thought there was nothing special about this guy and it's annoying that he keeps talking about his master degree, but... maybe... it wasn't that bad. His master degree taught him something, just like he said. And he's good at what he's doing. Journalism, I mean, duh, reporting and communication stuff. Yeah, communication stuff. He's good with his words, great.
"Making me work for it. I don't mind. I have a master's degree, after all. I'm used to hard work."
Overall this book is good as a light read but I don't think I will reread it. One thing for sure, this book makes me want to listen to podcasts. Ok one more Dominic Yun and his beautiful words:
"You just climbed a fucking mountain. You're beautiful, Shay. At work or in pajamas or at the top of a mountain."

"I stare because I like looking at you. You're interesting to look at."
I got low expectations for this book because booktok says it's overrated but when I see Joshua Templeman, let me breathe for a sec. My, my, my, Joshua Templeman. Where should I begin?
This man makes me doubt that my love language is words of affirmation anymore. I couldn't care less about what my love language is, I love everything (nice things and respectful things) that Josh did, do, and will do. Yes, he's mean. Very mean. He's the complete opposite of the nickname Mr. Nice Guy. But I know my body will fall when he says those sweet things and take care of me when I sick and not even disgusted and paint his bedroom like my eye color? (not mine, brown is a bad color for bedroom). Nevertheless, as much as I love this man, something feels missing but I'm still trying to figure out why,
Moving on, Lucinda Hutton. The Shortcake. Not gonna lie, I kinda hate that nickname. It makes her sounds... childish? Very small? (I mean I know she is, but not sure it's a good thing) Well the name reminds me a lot of Strawberry Shortcake and it makes me sing the soundtrack every time Josh calls her that. I love how determined Lucy is with her job I wonder how things are going on between her and Julie. And how brave she is?? Damn, that man is surely afraid of her to death. And I don't mean to hate what she likes, but what is it with her and the Smurfettes? Does it have anything to do with her and Josh or just a very weird hoby?
Plot wise, it's pretty cliché. Workplace romance, enemies because they're competing to become the new boss, the guy everyone hates and the girl everyone loves, wedding vacation getaway, blah blah blah and secretly in love. It feels so fast to me I even forgot already when did they confess their love and everything. I need more of Josh and Lucy after the Monday though we know what happened but DETAILS PLEASE.
Overall it's a worthy one for a light romcom read!

“To my left is a floor-to-ceiling three-million-dollar view of the ocean, but to my right is the view I would give my soul to see every day for the rest of my life.”
This book make me feel the same as when I just finished People We Meet On Vacation. It isn't that bad, but not that good either but I'm not surprised since I wasn't expecting much and just wanted something light to read. In conclusion, I probably just don't like friends-to-lovers trope and was only here for the fake dating.
So, the plot. The popular rich football player who befriends a ballet teacher for 6 years, if I'm not wrong, who's secretly have been in love with each other all this time. Here's the stupid part: it's not a secret. Everyone, and I mean everyone who sees them will know they like each other. They both are just chickens because they're too comfortable with the friend zone though yes they did said "I'm so tired of being just friends" kinda thing but guess what, that's your fault because you won't even confess??
Have I said that I was here for the fake dating? Yeah... that didn't really workout for me either for this one. Not a fun one. They're doing that for the money, or to be exact, Nathan was doing that so Bree can pay him back because he bought the whole building so she can continue her ballet lessons. About the money, I don't know why Bree always hesitates like it's a big problem??? LIKE THAT MAN IS RICH RICH. He won't lose his money no matter how much he spoils her and he was just trying to be nice and a good friend.
And the characters.... (yeah I'm going to talk about it at once). Nathan is cute but that's all really, Bree is okay and girl stop saying Nathan won't reciprocate your feeling. But I like Nathan's friends, they're all so supportive!
Outside of those two, one thing that I don't really like the most is the writing style. I found too much and I mean TOO MUCH words with all capital. It's like I'm reading a basic Wattpad story or a long text from a friend.
Another conclusion, I won't recommend this if you're looking for a fun fake dating trope (except some teasing and kissing scenes, this is a PG 13).

"Most people like being admired and complimented, they’re just not as honest about it. That doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you truthful."
First of all, I just wanna say that I'm back with the "let's start by simping on the male character first" review. Woohoo!
Okay, okay. Brendan Taggart. Or should I say, Captain Brendan Taggart? Alright, this man. Who would've thought I (or we, if you're on the same page as me) would be attracted to a grumpy charming widowed bearded fisherman that logically would smells like... fish? And the ocean? But guess what? I do. Maybe this is what people mean by don't judge a book by it's cover. Brendan's act of service melts my heart. Asked a handyman to fix Piper's bunk bed so her head won't be hurt when it hits, gave Piper a thumbs-up every time she cooks a bolognese pasta although he's sick of Italian, insisted to buy her clothes because he loves spoiling her, bought and use the perfume of her choice, many more I can't even mention it one by one. Brendan is a real respectful man. AND TAKE A LOOK AT HIS WORDS:
"You deserve so much better than what I gave, and it was wrong of me, so wrong, to get angry at you for protecting yourself. You were giving so much already. You give so much to everyone and everything you touch, you incredible fucking girl, and I love you. More than any goddamn ocean, do you hear me?" Pipes, babe, marry him, NOW.
Not only those two main characters, I also love the other characters! Such as Hannah, Fox, Opal, Abe, maybe not Mick and Kirby but they're all different and doesn't feel flat. Speaking of Hannah and Fox, I seriously don't think I can wait until March 2022 for Hook, Line, and Sinker. Watched a lot of booktok videos about it and man I just know it's going to be as good.
I honestly don't really pay much attention to the plot, but one thing I realize the drama so... dramatic? I know Piper missed Brendan's departure and he might think that she chose LA, but she cried and sobbing in the harbor like Brendan is gone forever and she doesn't have the chance to explain. Wasn't it only like a couple days cruise? One more thing, I was also surprised that I like this book more than I thought I was, this is my second book by Tessa Bailey, the first one was Fix Her Up and it wasn't really my cup of tea...
Overall I love this book, a light read romance with lovable characters!
