I DEVOURED THIS BOOOOK!!! ngl i had some doubts because the genre was new to the author, but i should never doubt ali hazelwood especially when it comes to writing female characters. the story was mainly focused on mallory's life, and she was such a relatable character, considering i'm also the oldest sister made me feel even more connected to her character. but the romance still had me giggling and kicking my feet!! who doesn't love it when, in the rivals-to-lovers trope, he breaks down his walls and falling for you after realizing that you're better than him 😋
i figured out what makes this so long is the fact that there's one spice chapter for every three chapters LOL but with that much quantity, it's not repetitive and well always... interesting. i know we're reading this book for the romance and definitely not to know more about hockey as a sport soo not complaining !!! the only ick i have is how they have a name for everything, i'm not even gonna talk about it. it's realy funny though—i laughed A LOT, hot, and yet still so angsty. i love jenniegarrett and their friendship with each other + with the others <3
i gotta be honest, from the blurb i thought lyla was going to fall for the criminal but i'm glad i was wrong. anyways okay wow this one's probably my second favorite plot wise because that twist!! did i know something would happen since devney perry has the same plot pattern for every book? yes. did i devour it anyway? also yes. the mystery genre made this one similar to indigo ridge, but this hits a little harder. the romance wasn't really dominant and it was kinda insta-lovey. lyla and vance's relationship could have more time for development instead of just, uh, having sex. plus i noticed another repetitive thing in the series: the not-Eden characters have families that are the opposite of the Edens—either dead, cut off, abandoned... we need a more diverse character background please! overall it was an enjoyable read and i still love the characters, vance just fits my bearded fictional man who loves nature type.
oh you guys weren't joking about partition being dantevivian's song 😳 maybe it's jacob morgan's voice or maybe the characters are actually funny, but for a billionaire romance i laughed a lot listening to this and that's a good thing cs i didn't expect much from this book. it was full of drama yet the final conflict appeared too long somehow, but who doesn't love an arranged marriage trope where the hero is convinced he didn't love the heroine until she left him then begs on his knees (literally and he asks respectfully) to get her back?
listen listen the only time i'm into the whole brother's best friend trope where the brother doesn't approve their relationship is when the mmc is a playboy in a small town setting and the brother's a total grump. THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL. it was a quick read but the spice was definitely not short in fact we need more. we need a lot more of luke brooks and clementine ryder!! i loved all the characters especially gus omg small town single dad you will always have my heart <3 i'm on a mission to find more cowboy romance and this book definitely hit the bullseye! can't wait to read wes & ada's story
