it's so hard to rate a book that I really enjoyed but was also a tad longer than I liked. the writing was really nice, and I loved the story, but it was really detailed in certain aspects of Detroit history & American history in general that made the book more lengthy than I prefer. definitely will read again but i'll have to wait at least 5 years :)

unfortunately found this book shortly after the author passed. this memoir made me cry for many reasons, and i look up to this woman now as a writer and a human being. she will be greatly missed ❤️
