Loved the first half. Absolutely struggled to keep up with the second.

god this was an absolute dumpster fire. Red flags from page 1. There are people who can write about this topic and then there’s Colleen Hoover. Soz, babe, but I think you maybe should have hit the delete button after all.

The real question is, will I ever read one of Emezi’s books that don’t deserve 5 stars? Because so far the answer is a hard No

This book felt like a fucking fever dream. “Her smile was the colour of her nipples” or, how to know this book was written by a man.

I’m still relatively new to audiobooks and I don’t think this was the BEST way to consume this book, so I definitely think my brain wandered a lot. That being said there were some lovely lines, and some lovely wee bits about acknowledging the universe for what it is and how it’s connected and how we can be in life to get the most out of it. Unfortunately alongside this, was some strong Kanye West “black people chose slavery” vibes, and some real snobbery. Very Socratic in the way he pulled apart everyone else’s thoughts without actually contributing his own.
Basically? I’ve met this man and he is EXHAUSTING.

I have honestly never read a book like this. This was absolutely wild and sublime and beautiful. It’s going to stick with me for a long time.
