I started out loving this book. Then I wasn’t. Then it picked back up. Then it took a weird turn. Then it ended well. It is hard to describe this book without spoilers. It isn’t a time travel book, per se, but more about people who have time traveled and how they are adapting to this new era. But there is also murder, mystery, and love.

I have to say that I enjoyed this book much better than I thought I was going to when I first started it.  As with many sci-fi books, it was difficult to understand the who, what, when, where, and why of this story.  Who and when being the most difficult.  However, the historical events (some real and some imagined) were very interesting and I especially loved the "Hiscon" essays to really set the scene.  I also feel that the character development was actually enhanced by the confusing beginning bc the reader is feeling what the narrator(s) are feeling.  Overall, this is a very interesting and surprising sci-fi/time travel book.

This was a very interesting take of Exodus from the Bible, but from the Egyptian point of view.  How terrified they were during the plagues made me really think.

This book was quite good.  I especially enjoyed the description of the monster and how the attacks played out.  I feel that the love story could have been toned down and that it took away from the story itself.

I wanted to love this book. I absolutely love Justin Cronin and think his work is elegant, moving, and thought provoking.  This story was just that...a story.  It was a nice story and changing POV was interesting.  The book definitely kept me interested and entertained, but I forgot it as soon as I put it down.  Sometimes I needed to back up to remember what I had read when I left off.  Disappointing, but it was his first published work.

Wow. This book was great from the first page.  I honestly had no idea where it was going and the twist (twists?) had me going.  It was a fun ride.
