Although the plot was a bit lacking and too passive at times, the well-written characters, beautiful language and strong emotions this novel evoked compensated its flaws more than enough. Without any exaggeration, I don't remember feeling this strongly for any character or relationship in a while.
Mina is an amazing female protagonist with enough depth and character to fill a picky reader's needs. She is empathetic and kind but also stubborn and curious. Her thoughts were relatable and trauma almost palpable, albeit I must admit its repetitiveness started to get slightly annoying. I swear I felt her desire for the Witch in my heart. The Witch herself was appropriately scary and callous to fill the role but be still lovable. I'm by no means a fan of age-gap romances, but I think Dunn executed it in as non-creepy, likable way as it can be done. Bitterthorn is certainly a book worth reading.
