Did not finish book. Stopped at 37%.
okay so. I liked this. but I haven't picked it up since January 2019 when I was in my first trimester and one of the side effects of my pregnancy was that just looking at books made me nauseated. at this point I would need to start again from the beginning, and this is a fucking tome. 827 pages. and it wasn't gonna be 5 stars, probably somewhere in the 3-4 range. so we're just gonna part ways.

I started this book three months ago, at what would turn out to be the tail end of a long-ass reading slump, and that's a shame because it deserves to be read in one fell swoop, not me picking it up where I left off having forgotten details. so I'd like to reread it someday and take it all in at once. this felt much more grounded to me than McQuiston's first book, Red, White & Royal Blue (which was something I complained about at the time in my review of the ARC), which is kind of funny because that one was ostensibly grounded in reality while this one has time travel. but I'm really glad because it serves the novel very well, and McQuiston is good at grounded versus the overwrought antics of RWRB (there's a bit of that in here but it's minimally used for humor, as it should be, not leading the story). this is what all romance novels should strive to be, and I say that as someone who enjoys romance. so fully realized that the romance serves the characters instead of the other way around.

should've been an easy 4 stars

what the hell was that ending

so at no point did I feel lost or confused just because I'm more familiar with the MCU than Marvel comics . . . until the end. and now I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing, some particular arc this is meant to tie into, because who ends a book like that? not without a sequel in the works, and the next book in this series is about Bucky. I want/wanted to read that and the Loki book but I'm really hesitant if they're all gonna be like this. pls advise.

Not a perfect book but still so damn good. I care so much about these characters and their fates and cannot wait for the next book.

Note: How this book is classified as medium paced is beyond me. It is the definition of fast paced if I've ever seen one. These poor kids barely get to rest.
