Sad that I had to dnf at 21%. It just didn't work for me. The narrator, the characters, plot, dialogues... Everything felt flat and bland.
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

I DESERVE AN ICE CREAM AND A BOWL OF FRENCH FRIES AND A PLATE OF FLAME GRILLED HUGE BURGER AND A TALL GLASS OF SWEET ICED TEA FOR MANAGING TO FINISH THIS HIDEOUS BOOK!

"No choice? You have nothing but choices! Andy, this job is not just a job anymore, in case you've failed to notice — it's taken over your entire life!"

I wouldn't say anything more other than reading the miserable Runway assistant life of Ahn-dre-ah had given me a massive headache the entire time. It was great, for I know the author was successful in making her readers feel the same exact torment the heroine was going through. But, was it entirely necessary? I wished Lauren Weisberger could have cut me some slack, I don't deserve it.

The entire story was consistent (for giving me a migraine, yes) and steady-paced. Though roughly 10% of the book I found myself skipping from which I rather found irrelevance in enumerating and roll-calling tons of names of signature brands, almost the entire time. I really don't care that much. There was some very subtle plot holes, and the narrative and story flow continued to provide unimportant information — and character, like Christian. Why was he supposed to be there again? Nothing much happened anyway. I wouldn't say Andy wasn't at all relatable — she is. Because once not a long time ago I found myself in the same shoes as hers. Not exactly working in a fashion mayhem, but almost the same as how I came to a point where I've overlooked my family, friends, even welfare of myself by acting heroic and unselfishly. It was a very, very dark place to be in on one's career.

Overall, I'm glad they made a movie out of this, because from the onset of the book I knew that this kind of story is better off on silver screen rather than a great amount of time sitting and reading. After all, it's very Hollywood-ish. And I don't look forward to read the sequel.

EDIT: from 3★ down to 2★. Had to diminish one... I just knew I had to.
Sisters Like Us by Susan Mallery

Simple, direct, well developed plot; it tackled tons of issues regarding family, sisterhood, comparison and contrast between the main characters, teenage angst, gender roles within family and society. Susan Mallery smoothly incorporated all this without sounding preachy at all and hadn't gotten lost in the way. What pulled me in most is that characters are a real person and not some kind of an imaginary friend drawn in black and white.

I loved it!

Furious beyond me. Furious beyond me. Furious beyond the life of everybody.
Too Late by Colleen Hoover

[SPOILER]

How can one read Too Late and not get offended by it in any way?

Disgraceful to womankind. As harsh as it sounds and as gory as it may seem like the book itself. Disgraceful to womankind. And I'm not even as close to being a hardcore feminist.

Colleen Hoover, with much respect to her aim at it being "edgier" and "darker" among her previous works, used extreme explicit words and gory imagery- which I don't mind at all, personally. But to go as far as tolerating rape in relationships? Not saying a word of disapproval for unwanted sex? Shrug it off girl and pretend that you like it. Finding yourself waking up in the middle of the night with the guy on top- can't keep his dick in his pants, banging you? Wrap your legs around his waist so that he'll get over it quicker. Hell no. Don't throw the selfless-love-for-family brick at me. Just NO.

Set in college and the realms of drug and money and cliché, tragic back stories of families: let's throw in an angst-y heroine (Sloan) so perfect and smart and pretty with a big ass and selfless who takes care of her brother with special needs. A heroine who is financially dependent (the fact that Sloan can't find a decent part-time job to sustain her and her brother is beyond me) on her psychotic, abusive, sexually addict, drug dealer boyfriend (Asa). Oh, and let's throw in someone (Carter/Luke) who'll save the heroine from all the misery she and the boyfriend brought into her life. Why not an attractive, brave undercover cop? Who... is an attractive, brave undercover cop, and... an attractive, brave undercover cop!

I'm tired of stories where girls, so in danger and so helpless, had to be saved by an unrealistically good-looking guy. So much as with heroines incapable of saving themselves from harm without having to run into the arms of another man.

Seriously. Overdone. *Hear the record screeching*

All the time I was reading Sloan's inner monologue about wanting her misery in the hands of Asa to end, she continuously failed and failed and failed to do just so. Then Luke came in the picture with nothing but conviction of saving her just after the span of their one-hour meet-cute in Spanish class. Both characters were one dimensional- like cutout cardboards of hot Hollywood actors, like two perfect people put in jeopardy. Yeah, of course, I can relate to that.

Oh, and the boyfriend villain, Asa. I wouldn't say as far that his characterization was waaayy better than other's- it's not. But at least I could see a ray of light with the way his persona was interestingly woven and had more depth compare to that of Sloan and Luke's. Below was a quote I found oddly funny when he was having a trip:

"I wonder where leather comes from?

"My mother told me it's made from cows, but I know she's a liar. So I don't believe her. How could leather be made out of cows? I've touched a cow before and they're sort of fuzzy. They don't look like leather to me. Leather looks more like it's made from dinosaurs than cows."

Overall the dialogues were repetitive which annoyed and dragged the hell out of me. And disgusting- regarding with how the general women within the story were treated; nothing but sex objects. I can't even wrap my head around the fact that this was written by a woman herself. Just where the heck is redemption?

I understand that this might not be a story to be taken too seriously since it's free and can be found on Wattpad *eye roll*, but still...

OHGAWDSTAHP.
