I loved this book and was surprised how fast I moved through it. This book has so many great connections to the Cosmere and the current series Brandon is writing. This felt more like a sci fi book than a pure epic fantasy and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was marvelously paced and can’t wait for more.

Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book as I had hoped. It is overly long and the pacing is very slow especially since it’s only one POV. I also think there are a number of repeated arguments this character has with others and that stuff should’ve been cut. The only reason to revisit these arguments is if something changes the equation of the argument…but it doesn’t.

NOW I finally see why this series is so hyped. This book was everything I wanted out of the first and that’s fine sometimes you have to start the series somewhere before it can get going and this one did. The ending has me wanting to jump into book 3 right away.

No surprise here but JJM returns to Star Wars with an excellent novel. He writes the characters we’ve seen on screen so well and those that didn’t get much screen time have excellent life breathed into them. I do think the novel struggled a bit with so many POVs and maybe a trilogy would’ve been more appropriate but still really good

This was a terrific start to the high republic. The story is interesting and there’s obviously a new terror that can go toe to toe with the Jedi. My one knock with the audible is Marchion Ro’s voice which sounded a little dopey like a hipster rebelling and I just didn’t get that impression when I read the book

I didn’t like this one as much as Malice. The writing is still excellent but the story had too many POVs and the chapters were so short it was hard to get invested in all the POV’s stories. The ending was fantastic and I gave it an extra star but I had a hard time following all of the characters involved.

This book was incredibly well written. Like many I’ve grown tired of the teenage love fest of “romantic vampires” we’ve been subjected to the last 20 years. This book returns them to their natural state as monsters. The hero is a torn figure. Raised to believe one thing but finding his own way often through pain he endures or inflicts on others through his actions. I’m also excited to continue the series.
This book is very “R” rated so if language is something you struggle with or sexual content this may not be for you.

I’m starting to tire of this series and it’s certainly been a frustrating experience between keeping up with comics and YA and children’s books. After the events of phase 1 it feels like momentum has stalled and I’m not looking forward to more stories in this series but the conclusion
