Quem me conhece sabe que leio livros numa tarde facilmente - sou uma fast reader. Demorei 5 meses a ler este livro. E não, não era um daqueles livros que precisa de ser lido devagar. Apenas lê-lo tornava-se insuportável para mim ao fim de 10 páginas e eu não sei se era por não estar na altura certa para o ler ou se a escrita da autora simplesmente não é para mim.

A história é muito interessante, mas há algo na escrita que está a falhar. Talvez o tente ler daqui a um tempo e mude de opinião.

"At first you fall in love in everything new, you wonder every morning that this is one's own, as if they are afraid that someone will suddenly come tumbling through the door and say that there has been a serious mistake and that it simply was not meant to would live so fine. But as the years go by, the facade worn, the wood cracks here and there, and you start to love this house not so much for all the ways it is perfect in that for all the ways it is not. You become familiar with all its nooks and crannies. How to avoid that the key gets stuck in the lock if it is cold outside. Which floorboards have some give when you step on them, and exactly how to open the doors for them not to creak. That's it, all the little secrets that make it your home.”

If I could highlight this whole book, I would. There's not a single sentence of it that did not make me sob or laugh. Without a doubt, one of my favourite books of 2022.

I knew this book would make me cry, but I didn't know that it would make me C-R-Y. Laughs and tears were caused by this book, the tragedy and comedy held hands in the most beautiful way.

I want to be friends with Ove, I adore this cranky old man and he broke my heart in the most wholesome way. I want to keep him in an aquarium, him and his love language being acts of service and his love for Sonja and his cat and his grumpiness <3

This was so fun to read! Plot twists after plot twists, was impossible to put it down. Really excited for the next ones! Also… #TeamGrayson

Não é mau, mas também não é bom. Não há muito a dizer, não é um livro que a história marque muito.

“There were many ways to be alienated from someone, few to actually belong.”

I was still halfway through the book and I already knew it was going to be a 5 out of 5 stars.
The story is about the Vignes twins that one day decide to run away together from their town, but each one find a different path for themselves.
It's not a light reading, but it's so worth it. It starts slowly, but then catches us with a force that is difficult to let go until we finish it. I had to stop reading a few times to catch breath and process what I was reading - it addresses topics as [TW/CW] racism, transphobia, sexual/domestic abuse, alzheimer, grief, among other heavy topics.

TW: emotional abuse, rape, anxiety, ptsd.

Let me just say this: All Too Well 10 Minutes Version (Taylor's Version).

I'm having a lot of mixed feelings after reading this book. This story was a lot to handle (it's not an average YA book, for sure). The overall message of this story is great and it brings to the table so many important topics - it makes you feel uncomfortable (which is good).
HOWEVER, I'm not giving it an higher rating because I didn't fully connect to the main character. Something was missing.

Gotta highlight this passage:
“Sometimes that's all you can do in life, when it comes to pain - try and understand it. We all carry scars and scorch marks around with us. We cuddle up each night with ghosts of damaging memories - we let them swirl around our heads, never able to settle or heal because we can't make sense of this terrible thing that happened to us, and why we're finding it so impossible to get over. You can't force pain to leave until it's ready to.”

um livro muito bom. apesar de ter gostado mais das partes onde o “narrador” apenas contava a história do que propriamente dos diálogos e das personagens em si, gostei muito do livro como um todo e é assustador o quão atual é. há muito que não lia um livro com citações tão bonitas! deixo abaixo três das minhas preferidas:

“esta separação brutal, sem meio-termo, sem futuro previsível, deixava-nos perturbados, incapazes de reagir contra a lembrança dessa presença, ainda tão próxima e já tão distante, que ocupava agora os nossos dias. Na verdade, sofríamos duas vezes: o nosso sofrimento, em primeiro lugar, e, em seguida, aquele que imaginávamos aos ausentes - filhos, esposas ou amantes.”

“porque o amor exige um pouco de futuro e para nós só havia instantes”

“o nosso amor, sem dúvida, estava presente ainda, mas simplesmente era inútil, pesado, inerte, estéril, como o crime ou a condenação. não era mais do que paciência sem futuro e uma espera obstinada”

“A cabeça e o corpo da avó estavam a morrer, qualquer pessoa podia ver isso, só que a cabeça estava a morrer mais depressa do que o corpo e, se isso não magoava o corpo da avó, magoava o meu.”

"Eliete cedo aprendeu a viver com a culpa, a carregá-la às costas como pele que se cola ao mais visceral que temos em nós, as nossas memórias."

Dulce Maria Cardoso é uma das escritoras que eu antes de ler tinha a certeza que iria adorar porque é mesmo a minha cara. E que bom que é quando a nossa intuição não falha, agora preciso urgentemente de ler tudo o que esta senhora escreveu e escreve.
Eliete é a pessoa mais banal que pode existir e é isso que a torna tão especial - tem tantos defeitos como qualidades, tantas falhas como vitórias. E com este final, esperamos urgentemente pela parte 2.
