Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

first off, this is not, as I was led to believe, american gods #2
while the events depicted in ths novel do occure in the same universe as american gods, and they are indeed chronologically situated after the events of said novel, it is, in no way, a sequel in the classical definition of the word.
Simply put, this is a stand alone novel, and an amazing one at that.
What stroke me first when I started it, was the tone of it all, I expected another mystery shrouded, fantasy infused, dantesque quest, but what I found was a very light hearted, mezmerizing and geniunely funny adventure of a simple man named fat charlie trying to regain control of a life that became entangled in his long lost brother's web (the borther is the long lost.. not the web :p).
While some dialogue and events in this book were illogical, then again.. this is a a) neil gaiman book, b) fantasy book. so you can't really expect the same set of logic one is used to to follow through, but still, a couple of lines were kind of pushed into the conversation for the sole purpose of advancing the plot and thus felt unatural and misplaced, this is the only reason why It isn't a 5 star review :p
Other than that simple misstep, that some may not see it as such (this is why this is an opinion piece and not a study nor a critic of the book, I'm am far from being a critic, and farther from being a scholar in literature or anything that ressembles it :p ), I have to say that this was quite an delightful ride, that, in many aspects, Ifound myself enjoying much more than Gaiman's earlier attempt at "an adult novel", the characters were full of life, the dialogue and the narration was on point, and the pacing was simply perfect.
soo.. should you read this novel ? will eveyrone and their mothers find it enjoyable ? well... Yes !(except for rosie's mother of course )
the reason? why, it's simple, this novel has everything : action, mystery, fantasy, romance and surrealism, it left me laughing out loud and at the edge of my seat (and bed), it kept me intrigued and impatient to find out what happens next, it made me happy, sad, angry and a lot of other emotions I'm too lazy to type down. Basically.. one can say that, yeah, I did like his book !
