i honestly had planned to write a full review but i really dont think i have the heart to get right into it. although, i do want everyone to know that in all my 20 years of life i have never been so grateful to be alive and able to read a book. and to be painfully honest again, i'm at a point where half the time i'd rather slip away and disappear forever but now that i've read this story in its entirety it's as if part of my brain is being unsealed and made to see the sun again. not all of my problems are solved and i still have 1001 assignments due by the end of the week and the rest of my life to worry but it feels much more bearable. i can't even put the reality of what i'm feeling into words actually but this is as close as i can get. that being said: i'll get to the craft aspect of this soon enough i just needed to get that off my chest :')

solid 4! nice pacing, bartimaeus is funny as shit and its a great setup for nathaniel/john for the rest of this trilogy. hes a really interesting character and think there's sm room for him to grow. i read this once nearly a decade or so ago and im glad i got to get to it again! i had some qualms with the way the magicians spoke abt their servants and the setting itself is steeped w elitism + imperialism (which is Accurate but i could only take so much of it b4 it got old) and id complain extensively howeverrr this backdrop serves the story well. overall, i think its a fine book! last but not least; hats off to the narrator simon jones (i think thts his name), he did a great job narrating and really augmented my experience!

a solid 3.75! i'll be honest i had issues with pacing, the overall tension of the story, and how info was revealed but tsujimura really excelled when it came down to making me care about this group of kids and i thought it was so beautifully done :') such a great story fr i lowk wish it was longer

a lovely story honestly, i was quite surprised bc usually the surprise marriage stories are very crazy in a bad way (think hapimari, funny, lots of drama but the character development works BACKWARDS and at some point it gets more frustrating than actually entertaining) but bread and butter starts off real quick and moves kinda quickly too but it doesnt actually feel like it yknow? really having a good time reading abt how their rxshp progresses! the art is also really great, it reminds me a bit of moyoco anno's style

☆ wolf or-7
☆ ode to a beloved's hips
☆ i, minotaur
☆ isn't the air also a body moving
☆ the cure for melancholy is to take the horn

☆ if i should come upon your house lonely in the west texas desert

solid 3, a fun thing to listen to at work and super quick! thought it took too damn long to tell us wht we (being me) already knew! i feel like it wouldve been much more of a good time if there were other leads but this was fine too. honestly wished it was longer and tho celeste is a lost cause i really really admire her dedication to her sister bc...yeah ! u'll get it if u have a sibling u love. abraxas was sexy but i wanted to see him a bit more like.. as a an actual chess piece in this game as opposed to wht was goin on in and he did become tht more obviously towards the end but like i said, not long enough for me to feel it rlly come to life. id rec it if uve got nothing to do and need a nice break from longer books! its interesting and i liked it :) tht being said...i think im a shooter for celeste sorry ik shes mad but i get it i rlly do
