It's good! I have to remember not to be too critical of the depth of the book, because it is intended for middle schoolers. Now, I'm not syaing that middle schoolers can't handle depth of thought or content, because they certainly can. What I am saying, however, is that in an upper YA version of this novel, there would have been a more extensive treatment of the resolution to this story. Overall, I think it is a great start to series book with engaging mystery elements and funny, likeable characters. Additionally, while it is about vampires, it contains a lot of everyday issues that teenagers deal with like jealousy between friends, uncertainty around the opposite sex (there's no same sex content), navigating school and teachers, and dealing with your parents/guardians. Overall, this is a good book for middle schoolers.
