i loved the kyoshi books so i was really excited to pick this one up. i think the writing style is great and it was engaging. unfortunately i felt like this one was underwhelming in regards to actually learning about yangchens back story. it has a lot of side characters which made it difficult to follow, and the story focuses a lot on her companion. a little disappointed but i will still give the sequel a try.

this is not for the girlies with religious trauma (ie me). i did enjoy the lyrical way that baldwin writes stories. his writing is always a joy to experience.

this is a "no plot just vibes" kind of book. i think there are many hidden messages and meanings, but they were hard for me to really decipher. the cover of the book is gorgeous and i enjoy the way the author writes. i'll give her other works another try.
