The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein

This book gave me dark academia vibes and Girl, Interrupted vibes with the presence of a possible vampire.  Our main character is 16 at a boarding school who believes this other girl could be a vampire.  It’s a coming of age book that adds in the possibility of vampires. This book is quite boring, but has few eerie moments that I liked and bumped my rating to a 2 star. I may have enjoyed it more if I was younger, but probably not. I picked this up because I’m wanting more vampire books. After just reading Carmilla, I appreciated the references in this book to that story.  I think the dark academia vibes were decent overall, but sadly this book just overall didn’t interest me enough and I found the characters annoying.

Don’t care if it’s not perfection, it’s a 5/5 for me 😱 For being an older book, predating Dracula, I wasn’t really expecting much. I certain wasn’t expecting such unsettling scenes. It felt like when you are watching a classic horror film for the first time and seeing why it’s a classic. Unfortunately I feel maybe Carmilla got lost in the midst of Dracula, but for being such a short book and being a great sapphic vampire book, it shouldn’t be forgotten. Now I need to buy a physical copy. I can see me rereading this.
