Gave this book a second try after DNFing the audiobook last year. Really glad I picked it up again in digital format. This is a fun read with a very shippable MC ship.

This book was just okay. I was expecting something more like Scream. All it was was a genre-aware book, with a backstory that was way too long, a middle that was full of unnecessary explanations, and a predictable (but satisfying) ending. The best part of the book happened between 75-90 percent of the way through. If it was about a hundred pages shorter I would've liked it more.

The MC's conceit was unbearable for me to read.

I was waiting for the plot to get good. It seemed like it wanted to be in the same vein as The Secret History but was missing the flair. Disappointing.

The metaphor of cannibalism = addiction was great. Most of the book was intriguing and engaging but the last 10% ruined the rating for me. It could’ve been a 5-star read, and I give 5-stars rarely. The ending really lost me. It didn’t feel in-character.
