Play It as It Lays by Joan Didion
4.0
Malaise is encapsulated in to Didion’s writing. A unique experience of short chapters with vignettes of dread, with hardly any good things happening, makes for a tragic ending.
Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Need to reread because I needed to read it for second but I procrastinated it, so I didn’t absorb as much as I’d like from this book.
Animal Farm by George Orwell
4.0
Orwell tackles fascinating socio-political themes of power through language presented in a very digestible compelling format.
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

My introduction to Vonnegut’s work. Compelling exploration of the consequences of war and, generally, the effect on the human in traumatic situations.
