Absolutely horrifying. Hard to put down, and hard to get out of my mind. This will prompt you to go down the rabbit hole of horrifying eugenics and human rights violations (particularly for people of color) in America.

I went into this blind and would recommend other readers to do the same. I do not normally read historical fiction. I guess this is more of historical horror. I liked the plot, but did not care for the ending. I really loved the main protagonist. I liked a few of the side characters as well. I will read more from this author in the future.

Fans of Slewfoot will also love this book.
