rainbow rowell’s writing gets me EVERY TIME. how is it so poetic and beautiful yet simple and relatable??? the tone of the writing of this book felt like eleanor and park x landline. because parts of it felt so similar to eleanor and park, i was scared it wouldnt have an hea, but no worries my friends, this book DESERVES its romance designation! i loved how absolutely GONE cary was for shiloh. i just wish he talked a little more about why he liked her, because she was pretty unlikable, but i didnt mind lol. one thing i loved about shiloh was how much she loved to bother him as a way to show love <3 it was so relatable for me specifically. one thing i DIDNT love about shiloh was that she changed her stance about the navy, because the fact that he was in the navy was probably my least favorite thing about cary. the end of this book dragged a little, and i would have enjoyed an epilogue, but it was still a good read!!

i requested this purely for the cover, and i ended up being a bit disappointed. lovers of drama-filled reality television will probably enjoy this. i didnt like the talk about american politics. i didnt disagree with paulie’s opinions, but i found the way she talked about politics annoying. i just found her annoying and unlikable in general. i couldnt tell if she was supposed to be unlikable or not. i was glad the end was happy, though, even if it wasnt quite what i expected

i like that in the conclusion, the author acknowledges the role that the people in the presidents’ lives contributed to their mistakes. i wish he had done that during each sections. this book was very informative!! it did feel slow at some points, despite not being too long. also, i think its CRAZY to conflate john adams with buchanan, johnson, wilson, and nixon!!!! like, john adams seriously messed up, yes, but in my opinion, he is nowhere near as bad as those others. i dont mind that he included adams, but the fact that he made comparisons to adams in other sections didnt sit right with me.
possibly the best depiction of anxiety ive ever read. some of the lines were thoughts from my own head. the writing was also incredible. and i loved being with monty again <3 i would have loved to see percy and louisa’s reactions when they got back to london, but this was still pretty much perfect.
