I wish i could get back the time i wasted reading this book because it was SUCH a disappointment!
The casual misogyny towards Ali was disgusting to read and even though I know that it was an important part of the book I do feel that Jones was a bit too heavy handed with it to the point where i had to put the book down in frustration sometimes. Also casually mentioning how how Jack didn’t employ women he thought would have babies soon was an EXTREMELY weird thing to add and i’m so confused as to why the author thought to include it.
Apart from the rampant sexism, the ending was SO unsatisfying. for what seemed like a million pages I read about Rachel being manipulated by her husband and her best friend but when it came to FINALLY wrapping it up we never got to see an actual confrontation and instead got some awful, melodramatic ending that just did not fit in with the rest of the novel. Also can i just say the big ‘twist’ was SO predictable.
The characters in this novel were INSUFFERABLE. rachel was constantly whining and blaming the other woman instead of confronting her HUSBAND, Jack was just an overall asshole, and Paige was THE WORST type of woman. Noah was still bearable but the only 2 characters who were somewhat interesting were Will and Ali.
i’m not one to tell people what books to read but please do yourself a favour and do not subject yourselves to this one because it is one of the worst books i’ve ever read.
