The Words of Kings and Prophets by Shauna Lawless
3.5
The first half was really slow and I was getting kinda bored. I really like the way the story is told, but the amount of scheming and politics was a bit much for me personally. I was eager for something to happen. The second half delivered on that aspect, but I have to say that I am getting kind of bored of this story. I have to agree that Shauna Lawless does a wonderful job with the characters though.

On page this book should deliver everything that I usually love, but it didn't. Overall it was extremely dull and the characters were one-dimensional. Additionally, I found the way the author included Rosemary's backstory was not well done. The short chapters and the constant change of POV's weren't helping. One chapter we are in the present with Kate and in the next one we are suddenly in the past with Rosemary and George. It was annoying to readjust every second chapter. For some reason other characters were sprinkled throughout the story, e.g. Ahmed learning for exams, the couple Frank and Jermaine, that one pregnant woman. I fail to see how there small cameos are relevant to the story

All the whining of the MC got on my nerves pretty quickly. She literally complained about everything and everyone.

This book was just bland and had nothing that kept me interested in continuing. The characters were one-dimensional and too little happened in the first quarter.

This just wasn't a well written book imo. It felt choppy and not well paced. I also found the interactions between Nell and Myrddin to be quite strange considering the situation Nell was in just a few moments before.
