Ugh! I despise this book from the very beginning, starting with Americanizing her name from Socorro to Corrie. By page 8 she’s already sexualizing herself and then it’s just nonstop after that. To me, this book wasn’t spicy, it was just cringy.
The second part of the book where it finally stopped talking about her tits and ass and his raging hard on while ogling her every other sentence and actually had some other context about the dig made the book bearable and I was able to finish the book without rolling my eyes or putting the book down to scroll IG!
Tbh, I wouldn’t have pushed through to finish this book if it wasn’t for book club. There are plenty of other books that manage to be spicy without the cringe, or the over sexualization of another Latina/brown woman.
Legitimate Kid: A Memoir by Aida Rodriguez

It was hard for me to rate this book. I listened to it on Libro and although Aida is a funny and great comedian, her reading of this book was very flat and monotone which made it hard for me to listen. It took me 22 days to get through this book and I was only able to power through by speeding up the narration. I found the order of the story and jumping between different times in her life without warning to be confusing.
I gave the book 3 stars, because I found a lot of her experiences relatable, especially the colorism within our own culture and family, the hyper focus on girls “purity”, her deep connection with her maternal grandmother, and her references to Puerto Rican food and music.
