So the protag is more clued in but he's also still learning his trade as ruler of a country. The first section he's not a major player on the political board either, all of which means that he's another fantastic unreliable narrator but also that you're not getting the full picture of the ongoing machinations as the reader. I did love Sophos' journey into becoming a king and how it pushes him to develop as his own person.

This was a really lovely book to dip and out. It did sometimes make me wish I was reading a fortunate man instead, and I would've liked to read more about her actual cases. But I lived the emphasis on the importance of a family doctor and continuity of health care. The recommended reading in the acknowledgements seems extremely comprehensive on that topic especially.

Ever instalment so far has been a hit. The only reason this is not a full 5 stars to me is because it's outsider POV so everything is a bit more convoluted and you don't get the undiluted yearning and pining that's happening between the king and queen. I would love to have seen their private conversations and discussions. That being said Costis is amazing and I wouldn't give him up for the world.

I enjoyed the unreliability of the main narrators and other povs. Im getting a bit annoyed with flashbacks to clues that were withheld from the reader in the moment that they happen. I don't need everything spelled out but a dropped hint that we could later Clock as being a proper clue would make it a lot more fun as an experience.
Plot reminded me a bit of quintana of charyn by melina marchetta, in a good way.

I'm still a sucker for a fantasy (of manners) story where a group of people who don't all like each other have to go on a road trip for a shared purpose. Its such a good genre and this is a great example of why that is so.
The only thing I wasn't big on were the interruptions for the myths and legends but they were necessary to understanding the main plot purpose so what csn you do.

Felt a little too much like reading a manual on how to start a coffee shop
