I tried listening to the audiobook, but the guy who narrates sounds like Casey Kasem. Marcus Garvey was Jamaican. It's not just that the accent is off, but I seriously kept waiting for the reader to say something about the next top 40 hit.
I will never understand stories about fat women who are mad at the world for hating them for being fat, but those same women spend the whole book criticizing other people for their skin, jobs, education, quirky habits, etc.
People can call this book brave all they want, but it begins with the author describing herself like a literal clown-pig. I will not read stuff like that, but I flipped through to read the start of a few chapters to see if it has a harsh beginning but develops. She describes herself in elementary school as being so fat that you can't even see her pig eyes. Okay, that's not a thing, and I should have been more skeptical when I read Oprah, a notorious fat hater, praised this book.
I just felt kinda meh about how Tina Turner said she started chanting and then suddenly good things happened to her, like discovering a set of her favorite makeup that had been discontinued and hitting more green lights in her car.
