Black Heart Blue by Louisa Reid
4.0
This book is breathtakingly beautiful. Well written and full of feels. Along with the twins, I too went on an emotional roller-coaster. Unable to put down this book from the moment I found it lying innocently on a classmate's desk, I cried, laughed and connected with the twins.
This book couldn't have been any more gut-wrenchingly horrible than it was and that was the best part. Showing the side of the world that people rarely see and what can honestly happen behind the closed doors of a seemingly perfect family.
The story will force you to think of your actions and words along with the effect they can have on others when you can manage to put the book down. It’s a wonderfully eye-opening book that will take you through the dark side of abuse while ensuring that light is there to guide your way back.
Although this book isn't for anyone, there is a certain level of maturity required to read this but this book is not genre bound. It is a book I’d suggest reading whether or not you like this genre or are a boy or girl. The classmate of mine that read this was a guy and even he found the story touching and an eye-opener. It is rare to find a book written by women about women/girls that can be read and enjoyed by both genders and this is one such book. I would suggest reading it it you can, even if angst isn't your forte.
This book is something to be read on a sunny summer day because the haunting tale it tells makes the world feels dark, weary and downright cruel. Having sunshine and laughter around you after such a book would be the best.
I write this review after having read the book twice and all I can say is that the book is beautifully worded and delicately crafted. I really look forward to reading more of Louisa Reid's work
