Where Angels Fear To Tread by E.M. Forster

at times certain parts of this book are difficult to read because the familiarity delivers such an unforgiving sting.
"I never except anything to happen now, and so I am never disappointed. You would be surprised to know what my great events are. Going to the theatre yesterday, talking to you now - I dont suppose I shall ever meet anything greater. I seem fated to pass through the world without colliding with it or moving it - and I'm sure I can't tell you whether the fate's good or evil. I don’t die - I don’t fall in love. And if other people die or fall in love they always do it when I'm not there."

what in the world... I read this as I was (and still am, oh God why can't I finish?) writing a short story with a 1950s sort of sci-fi flavor. there's plenty of flavor and interesting phrases etc to be snagged from this, but there's something so hilarious about Heinleins pathological need for all his books to end with a nudist society taking over. name one Heinlein book where they aren't forced to all turn to nudity. its compulsive!!!

I started this book eight years ago, because I was in a silent hill phase (which has yet to end, btw), and it took me most of those eight years to read half of it. the other half I finished just this week. I look back at some of the notes I wrote in the margins (which this book invites if not requires) and I don't recognize the person that wrote them. when you enter this book, you might find yourself dreading to leave.

there's not much to be said. i've seldom read such clear, palpable descriptions of love.
