I loved this book, despite it being far outside my usual wheelhouse. It was gripping, I wanted to read it all in one day once I got about halfway, but it’s obviously too long to do that. The writing is quite beautiful, the description passages lyrical. The banter between the main characters is funny. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the ending… it’ll take a while to process.

What a fascinating book! Sweeping and engrossing, I was immediately sucked into the characters and how real they all felt. Around the halfway point, things started to escalate into surrealism, and I understood less of what was happening but I loved it just the same. There are so many beautiful lines in this book, paragraphs I read aloud to my friends just for the sake of hearing them spoken, I couldn’t even pick a favourite.
