This was a sweet story about a woman getting back on her feet again after she loses her job and moves back to her childhood home. I would label this more fiction than romance – while I wouldn’t consider the romance a weak point, I would say it’s a secondary plotline. I loved Jessie’s relationship with her mom and the friendships she rekindled and made as she worked at building her own business.

This was so good. Second chance romances always wreck me, and this one was no exception. I love how Georgia and Eli navigated rekindling their relationship, and how Georgia worked through her own anxieties as well. I’m normally a big fan of dual POV and not a fan of excessive flashbacks, but the choice of single POV and flashbacks really worked for me here. Overall excellent characters and writing.

I went into this with low expectations, given how much I disliked Sex, Lies and Sensibility, and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. I still think Payne sticks too closely to the source material in these retellings, which makes it hard to feel that she’s making it her own. I doubt I’ll continue with the series but I would be curious to read an original work by her.

This was excellent. Atef Abu Saif writes about the fear, stress and brutality of living through a war. He records the destruction he witnesses as well as more normal things such as his children’s complaints and meetings with friends, all with eloquence. An incredibly heartbreaking and engrossing read.

In theory I love the idea of a history of Italian food, but I found this a bit dry. Interesting information, but I didn’t enjoy the writing style.

This series is just a good time. I enjoyed the relationship between Achilles, Patroclus and Helen. The conflict of who would become Ares kept me guessing until the end. And while yes, this world continues to be absurd, I’m excited to see where it goes from here.

NK Jemisin is not talked about enough, especially for her series outside of the Broken Earth trilogy. The third book feels much closer to the first as we’re back with a lot of the same characters. I really liked how childhood and aging we’re talked about in this, and I just can’t help loving Sieh. The second book is still my favourite, but this one wraps up the series well.
