A lot heavier than the brightly coloured cover might suggest. Really good though!

This one makes me sad but it’s time to admit defeat.
Initially I did like it. There was something so soothing about the audio and I was excited to learn more about moss, but the further I got in the more I realised I wasn’t retaining any of the information.
A lot of the mosses talked about don’t have English names so most of the time I had no idea what kind of moss the author was even talking about. Maybe if I’d read a physical copy, I could have looked up the names, but with the audio I wouldn’t know how to spell them and I also didn’t want to constantly hit pause to look up things as that would very much take away from the audio experience.
Idk, maybe I’ll get a physical copy some day but for now I’ve decided to let Gathering Moss go.

I have some issues with the book itself (mainly the many times the n-word is used, but also the use of the magical black man trope), aside from that I’m also just not a fan of prison-settings and because of that it took me some more time to get invested in the story and its characters.

The writing style wasn't always my favourite (nothing wrong with it, I'm just picky with my poetry), but the poems definitely hit me emotionally. Not an easy read, but an important one. A window into life in Gaza. (published in 2022)

Not what I was expecting. Thought it would be a horror/thriller read but, to me, it felt more like a drama/mystery. I did like it though, once I det those expectations aside.
However, what did bug me was the way a lot of the dialogue was written. Kinda like a script instead of a novel? Not my favourite.
