Den Lille Prins by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

"What is essential is invisible to the eyes."
This book is very profound. There's much knowledge to be acquired from the Little Prince's odyssey. I'd definitely like to read it again.
To the little Me, this one was for you!

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
5.0
How do you begin to articulate your thoughts and feelings after reading a book such as The Handmaid's Tale?
It took me quite a while to get through this book because the truths were so heavy.
Atwood did not hesitate to bring truth to light; how unfortunate it is to say this is the world we now live in.
She has given a voice to the voiceless and has made seen those who are hidden.

"Can anyone be happy if they aren't free?"
An all time favourite!
Oh...I still get butterflies for the library.

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
5.0
I had to put this book down several times in order to be present and take a moment to give thanks. Flowers for Algernon is an introspective and inspiring novel that leaves you wanting to do better for yourself and those around you.
Having finished, I'm left in a melancholic state; Charlie's story broke my heart. Even though you know the inevitable is going to take place, there's no preparing oneself.
This book is necessary! I can't believe it took me so long to get around to it.
So many inspiring and thought-provoking quotes.
"All too often a search for knowledge drives out the search for love."
"Now I understand one of the important reasons for going to college and gettings an education is to learn that the things you've believed in all your life aren't true, and that nothing is what it appears to be."

Cathedral by Raymond Carver

I personally took my time reading these short stories (every few days) just so I could savour Carver's brilliant words. My favourites were, "Feathers," "Fever," and "Cathedral." This collection of Carver's short stories addresses and explores common issues we tend to struggle with in our everyday lives: particularly love, loss, and alcoholism. I appreciated this short story collection and can hardly wait to delve into his other works.
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Put me
underneath God's sky and
know me
don't just see me with your eyes
Take away
this mask of flesh and bone and
See me
for my soul
alone.
This book lets you in on a cry for help. It's hard to make sense of something you don't quite understand. I struggled at times to let go of my "feelings," and understand she was trying to make sense of everything; the reasons why she lost hope. I don't think she was blaming anyone in particular. I believe she was letting us in on her journey of how everything is everything.
Overall 4.5

The journey
The beauty
Life!
These poems did what they were written to do; evoke an insurmountable amount of emotions. You cannot help but feel proud in knowing that black is beautiful; you are made of stars and moonlight.
Also therein, are notable reminders about self-love; it is imperative before you share any part of yourself.
I enjoyed the profundity in the simplicity of her writing.
