Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl

3/5 stars. wasn’t a huge fan of this book but it was entertaining. i was always intrigued as to what was going to happen. but i wasn’t a big fan of the writing (wow there were a lot of metaphors 🙄) and i found the story and concept itself to just be... weird and not for me lol. i also found that the characters were all over the place. i don’t know, i’m sure lots of people will love this book but i am just not one of those people.
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel

i appreciated the story and its queerness but i found it quite inaccessible in regards to the language used. it was very academic, and i don’t do well w academic language and texts lol. so i guess this is just a personal problem maybe??? it was enjoyable at least.

3.5/5 stars!! an enjoyable, important book at its core.
however, i find it v interesting that the author included a note at the end saying how she’s an intersectional feminist and enjoys media that fights for disabled and trans women when they’re literally not even included in her book........ like..... what. also i found most of the characters to be one-dimensional and not super fleshed out, which bothered me a lot. as well, i felt as though a lot of the book dealt w v surface-level, basic feminism, which isn’t BAD by any means, i just thought it would have been good to have better discussions around intersectionality, and how guys treat girls regarding other things than just their bodies.
but like i said, it was overall enjoyable and i hope it sparks some feminist revolutions in its readers if they hadn’t thought about it beforehand.
