As an Irish woman born after the closures of 'mother and baby homes', my knowledge of the depths of these establishments was severely lacking.

This is such an eye-opening book, unflinching in it's honesty of how the Catholic Church and the State treated women and their children.

Please read it. The truth can no longer continue to be swept under the rug, buried in septic tanks or unmarked mass graves.

This book is absolutely disgusting, I couldn't put it down. True horror and gore. I can only describe it as a serial killer love story, without going into any spoilers. Not for the faint of heart or stomach though, so be warned.

However there are also sub-plots of the AIDS epidemic of the 80s/90s and general homophobia, that can be found in other less gore-filled media. The book is also strongly influenced by the Jeffrey Dahmer case, through certain events & portrayals.

I can't think of a better book to read on coronation day. Very informative of the start of the Troubles, and of Bernadette Devlin.
