The Shadow Sister by Lily Meade
Casey’s older sister, Sutton, disappears for several days. She is found several days later with no memory of where she’d been or with whom. Casey is struggling with accepting that her sister has returned - Sutton is not the same at all and she is saying and doing strange things. Is Sutton’s disappearance linked to that of several other local girls that have gone missing? Will Sutton ever remember what happened? Who can Casey trust?
This was a great read - so hard to put down! The plot was great and the characters are very believable!

This is the final book of the Birthmarked trilogy.
Gaia Stone is now the Matriarch of Sylum and is leading most of her people to the Enclave in a last-ditch effort to save them and have a future. In her absence, life in the Enclave has become more cruel - they’re now hiring young women for the “baby factory”. Can Gaia convince the Protectorat to accept the people of Sylum? Can the people all form a better society?
I loved this trilogy. Gaia was naive and immature which was frustrating at some points but she did learn and grow. Highly recommended!

This is the second book of the Birthmarked trilogy. Gaia Stone has managed to escape from the Enclave with her newborn sister only to be captured and taken to Sylum. In Sylum, women rule, even though they’re outnumbered by men, and a kiss is a crime. Gaia must submit to their social norms if she wants to see her sister again. But she makes discoveries that she feels need to be addressed along with several societal changes. Can Gaia maintain her sense of self as she assimilates?

This was a book club read and not my normal genre, but I really enjoyed the story. Slow start, but worth the wait!
“Ama” has three god daughters that she and her husband “adopted”. She’s now a widow and has scheduled one last summer on Martha’s Vineyard to decide which of them will inherit the summer home. The four ladies learn a lot about themselves and each other as years-long secrets are revealed. 3.5/5

Book #44 of 2022. Falling by TJ Newman.
There are 143 “souls” on board a flight to New York. Unbeknownst to any of them, the pilot’s family was kidnapped 30 minutes ago. He is told to crash the plane or his family dies. The pilot has decided that he will not choose.
This is the thrilling tale of how he uses all his resources to protect his family and his passengers.
I was so caught up in this story!!! The characters were all multi-faceted; the plot was riveting and the pacing was superb. The author was fully in control of all my emotions. Highly recommend!

Lily and Trent are finally getting married! Unfortunately, Lily’s 9-year-old foster son wants to perform the wedding ceremony and does not seem to understand why no one sees him as a preacher…
Meanwhile, Reverend Paula Grant is being forced to close her church in Miami. Her church served as many homeless as they could and was being closed to make way for a more commercial development. She relocates to Henry Adams to serve there.
This was a solid story with a some very heart-warming revelations.

Book #42 of 2023. The Daughters of Foxcote Manor by Eve Chase.
The story opens in 1970s England - a family home goes up in flames and the mom, her children and the nanny, Rita, are relocated to Foxcote Manor. One day, 13-year-old Hera finds an abandoned baby in the woods. Mrs. Harrington decides to keep the baby. Rita is tasked with tracking Mrs. Harrington and reporting back to her husband.
Fast forward forty years and Sylvie has decided to no longer put up with her husbands philandering. She has left him and started to build a new life when her teen daughter has an unexpected pregnancy. And the other grandmother is A LOT!
The author moves between the timelines effortlessly and she goes the disparate stories together - BOOM! I really liked this story and the ending was satisfying!
