It's Raining Men by Dani Galliaro

4.5

This was a nice and quick read with a ton of emotion, depth, and a helping of spice. It was super clear while reading just how passionate Dani is about storms and meteorology. That passion helped the story have a level of realism and information that was definitely needed. I also really enjoyed Richard's character. His realism and comic relief made me smile. Keep in mind that part of this book has quite an age gap. If you are looking for a short romantic thriller(ish) with some spice, I definitely recommend it.

I adored this story for including a badass woman doing better than all of the men around her. She's a FMC we can all look up to who knows her worth and doesn't take any flack from the boys, love to see it. While she is a petite woman, she doesn't let that become her whole personality. Overall she's a fun character who I would love to be friends with.

Speaking of iconic, Logan and Ivan are iconic for loving country music. I love seeing two strong men in sports unafraid to show their love for music which is often teased. I adore Ivan, another character I would adore being friends with. This book does a great job of demonstrating a platonic relationship full of trust with physicality purely from the nature of figure skating.

The only thing I wasn't fully in love with was how there were moments that highly promoted good communication amongst everyone but it felt like it wasn't as fleshed out as it could be. The moment everyone starts talking, it all gets resolved.

This book would be fantastic adapted into a movie. I'd especially love to see Annie and Ivan's skating routine to the song Beggin' as I just know it would be incredible. Or all of the cute moments such as Logan's jealousy that I will not spoil despite how much I want to gush about them.

Overall, this book has lovable characters with personalities, flaws, and complex character dynamics more indicative of real life than the average romance. It would be fantastic as a movie and was an engaging read from cover to cover.

Hooked by Emily McIntire

It took me a bit to wrap up all of my thoughts and put them into words. For how dark this one was I am a bit surprised it is a five star but I truly cannot stop thinking about it and really want to continue the series. There is something about the pacing and nuggets of excitement in her writing that make it really addictive.

I also have to applaud the narrators for speaking with actual emotion and conviction when appropriate. The depth of emotion they can convey makes it quite engaging the whole time.

This twist on the original Peter Pan tale felt absolutely perfect. The modern setting with just enough nods to the original kept a lovely balance.

I knew this was a dark romance booked but I was shocked by how quickly things took a very dark and violent turn. James' character is incredibly intense but it makes total sense. It fits well into a modern-day villain. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I applaud McIntire for creating a multi-faceted villain character.

It felt like the number of characters in total was quite well-balanced. There were a limited number of main characters but enough side characters to make the world feel full. That said, we aren't overintroduced to characters that play no part in the narrative.

Please look up trigger warnings before reading as there are a lot. This book has some very spicy scenes so do not read if that isn't your thing.

Overall, the writing as a whole is so well-done which is what sold me on this one being a five star for me. McIntire writes balanced worlds with flawed characters with emotional depth and the perfect balance of harking back to the original story. If I had to summarize this story simply, I would call it a beautiful nightmare.

I don't have a ton to say as this is just her life's story. That said, I would've loved more from Derek's POV

I feel like the epilogue makes no sense for these too. Especially Roo.

Of all of Evie's books I've read so far this is probably my least favorite. It is missing the sweet romance elements that Evie does so well. You can tell mystery isn't her typical genre and the build-up of the story just comes off as odd. I think if the next book focuses more on the romance, it will work better. I will be honest a lot of my dislike of this book is that I just don't like Link. He's shady, full of himself, and not as good of a person as he acts like he is. I'm blatantly rooting against him. All of that said, I thought the pacing of the story was good and I am curious to see where she takes this series next.

I am very interested in seeing where this series goes in the future. I adored the dynamic between Harper and Travis. They are very adorable together and I am interested to see how they get along in the long-term. I also really liked the pacing of this book. It felt very natural and just the right amount of detail.

I will admit, I am not the biggest fan of the male narrator. He comes off as incredibly pompous sounding, particularly at the beginning. As the story went on, it thankfully got better. I do like the character and his love of peanut butter is adorable.

As of right now, I don't feel like Victoria and Travis are a good pair but I have a feeling the rest of the books in the series will change my mind about that.

I liked how the men are protective in a genuine way. Their protective nature felt more mature than the guys from the previous two books. This distinction was much needed. I will say, even if Tiffany is bi, she is the worst and I hope to never see her again. The pacing for this one felt a little off. After two nights actually around each other they are confessing love. That just makes the pacing of the whole story seem rushed. It definitely left me wanting a bit more but I will continue this series for sure for a nice quick and spicy read. I also will always love these titles!
