weird one. abercrombie is undoubtedly a very talented author - the prose in this was great and his environments were lush - but this has a weak plot with ultimately uninteresting and unlikeable characters. im intrigued to know out what the story is actually leading to, but it feels unimaginative and i really thought the characters would grow more on me than they have. i'm gonna finish the trilogy + bc i'm on holiday and have the books with me i'll probably read the stand-alones but. yeah. i don't know. kind of a let down i suppose. maybe the third book will magically turn everything around? dunno. i also think the portrayal of the gurkish is just. racist. to be honest.

yeah i thought this was an interesting start to a trilogy. fun to read but kind of goofy, and not much like... idk. i didn't care about any of the characters nor understand their Motives for things but it's only the first book. i'll most likely finish the series

man what a good end to the trilogy. i thought some of the pacing was weird and im not like. 100% sold on The Ending as a concept but it was really nice. deeply emotional. yeah.

this was pretty fun. great worldbuilding. had some real #CHILLS moments.
however i found some of the combat & ~lore~ difficult to follow + the ages of the characters didn't really come through very well but that's not an awful issue though it did bother me enough to think it worth nothing LOL
