Do not expect even one ounce of happiness in this whole book!! I was skeptical of this at first bc i thought it was just vegan propaganda but it actually is kind of more about the lengths people will go to to have a child, and how desensitized one can become to violence if they’re being paid to do so. AND its also vegan propaganda but it works. Sick and twisted thats fs, women authors are always the most creative when it comes to brutality 🥴 It was also really focused on rhetoric and language that shapes our ways of knowing, the power of words and semiotics.

This book (although slightly anti-climactic for me) was so lovely and sweet and i think it would make an amazing movie, it was so easy to visualize everything and the characters were so relatable. It starts off horror but kind of becomes a coming of age story and a story about indigenous resilience and the health of land etc. it was so beautiful

Octavia missed me w this one i fear. It almost felled like a vampire bridgerton-style polyamorous legal drama, which i almost liked except i couldn’t get passed the whole
53 yr old who looks 11 who bangs adults vibe
i really did not enjoy having to imagine that part. But! Sick concept. I think dark fantasy lovers would eat this up.

This was so beautiful
I feel like the main character was literally the entire human race
And you get so many different perspectives of first contact, a pandemic, the science world and the art world during the apocalypse etc. It was really cool.
The book focuses on east-asian specifically japanese characters and a lot of it is set in the bay area which was also awesome.

Bruh. Overrated as hell this mf definitely hates women first of all. Second of all he spends like 30% of the book talking abt two different 12 yr old girl’s br34sts and one of them is his SISTerrrrr. The magical realism was fire and the story was good but the ending was a cop out. If the misogyny and psuedo-pedophilia had been less rampant i would have def been able to enjoy the story as it was actually good. But damn. PASS!!!! (He also used to word ‘penis’ one too many times for me sry)
