This book was absolutely devastating from beginning to end. I quickly grew to love both Mariam and Laila and cried for them at each misfortune and each wrong turn. It was the perfect mix of heartbreak and hope, both intertwined to create a bittersweet but raw and emotional novel. The writing was beautiful and created a narrative of feminine strength and perseverance. I especially loved the way the ending made everything truly come full circle. My only complaint is that at times, it not very evident as to what had occurred until a few pages after it did occur. Overall, however, this is one of the rare historical fiction books that I have found myself truly enjoying and becoming immersed in.

I was obsessed with this book from start to finish. I mean, I stayed up until 3 am just to finish it. Liz and Wes are so adorable and I loved the rom-com energy this book gave off. It's such a cute, feel-good read that will have you kicking your feet and giggling the entire time.

A deceivingly simple plot that turned out to fall perfectly into place as everything was revealed. I thought it was a bit predictable, but otherwise a great read with lovable characters you'll root for until the very end.

This book refuses to get out of my head, no matter what I try to do. Sue Lynn Tan has crafted a cast of characters that draw you in and make you sympathize with their plights, and a world that delights and surprises at every turn. It's a perfect book to binge when you have a few hours on your hands, and it will leave you hungering to see more of the characters and the world.

After the events of Daughter of the Moon Goddess, I couldn't imagine how else the story could be extended. However, Sue Lynn Tan masterfully raised the stakes higher than ever before, and I found myself falling more in love with the characters and their development in this novel. Her unique, beautiful writing style still shines through in this brilliant sequel. While I wasn't too happy with the way it ended, I do understand how and why the characters ended up the way they did. Just make sure to have tissues with you when reading, for there is no shortage of devastation in this book.
