An, unfortunately, disappointing end to this series. The final battle doesn't start until roughly 400 pages into this 500 page book (a reflection of the poor pacing of most of the series), only one character that the reader is familiar with dies (shows how there are far less stakes and consequences in this series than in the previous), and the end lacks any kind of finality.

Honestly, unless you truly love the new characters or you're dying to read The Trials of Apollo, I'd say to just stick to the Percy Jackson series.

3.25

Overall, I enjoyed the plot of this book and I enjoyed how it was written. However, I found most of the perspectives (apart from Percy and Annabeth's) to be weaker and suffered from quite a lot of telling and not showing. Many plot points and character developments felt very forced and only shoved into the book because Riordan decided he wanted character's storylines to end a certain way and he hadn't used the earlier books to properly lay the groundwork.

I loved certain parts of this book so much I wish the overall rating could be higher, but when viewed as a whole, and when I factor in the much weaker elements of the story, I don't think I can confidently give this book a 3.5, so I have to leave it lower at a 3.25

At one point felt physically faint (like vision starting to go dark around the edges & dizzy) while reading this book...so 3.5 stars to that experience

An incredible read. I was not only engrossed by the story of Jeannette Walls's life, but also the way she told it. I found myself tearing up, making comments to myself, and smiling at numerous points in the book.
