Uh hmm if there’s two people that shouldn’t be together more it’s these two!!! Weird premise and did not work like hey maybe you guys are really bad at communication and don’t like each other actually? Maybe you SHOULD break up!
GOD TJR just understands women so well. All the ugly nuances, the fierce competition, the fear, the longing, the complex relationships. The feather-daughter relationship is the heart of this book but Carrie Soto is the rest of the body, strong, smart, talented, interesting. I’m still thinking about it and will be for awhile.

Beautiful writing, STUNNING characters, and saucy relationships 🤭 this book OOZED chemistry, intelligence, humor, and Black excellence. Honestly, probably one of my favorites that I will need to reread at some point. Bolu Babalola please write more!!!
I only docked some off the five stars because of the cheesiness of the public confessions of love tbh and a third act breakup 😭 but that’s more personal preference than anything

I don’t even know what to say. This book took a bit to get going but once it did, it really did and it had so much to say. The commentary on exploitation and capitalism and race and LANGUAGE and how deeply those concepts are intertwined are going to stick with me for awhile. I loved the different perspectives on revolution and what lines can and cannot be crossed in the name of liberation. So many questions this made me consider that I don’t know if I have the answer to. Is martyrdom necessary and heroic or is it an easy selfish escape? Does revolution deman violence to awake oppressors from the normal happenings of life in order to shift the system and make history? Does a strike demand death and sacrifice and ruin until the demands are met or should the revolutionaries hold the lives of the innocent civilians above the atrocities of the corrupt system?? I don’t know!!!! Amazing!!! RF Kuang I will read anything you write!!!
the writing was good and the relationship between the two leads was the strongest part but I found it kind of dragged?? The world and battles felt small and boring and the magic system a little hard to grasp! Not bad overall and I might consider reading the others in the series!!
God this book dragged it felt so repetitive, the writing was awful, the characters were annoying. Someone else described it as aggressively White and I’m gonna have to agree with that. It’s like if someone read the concept of gilmore girls and butchered the whole thing. I hated this thanks!
