This was much better, and a much faster read, than I was expecting. Even though it's a horror novel, I didn't feel fear, necessarily, and the horrific elements were used to good effect and not overdone.

I loved how this book took a lot of the standard pirate tropes and turned them on their heads. The way the fantastic was worked into the world was extremely well done.
