Well that was hella dramatic and did not let me breathe. Each chapter kept climbing and climbing and climbing and my heart was at my throat because whow, there was a lot. And then the last chapter happened and I was like: why. It felt so anticlimactic from the buildup. Like I know this is supposed to be short, but I wish that there were at least couple more chapters to fit with the drama of the rest of the book.

Lmao, what was that ending!?!!??!?

Okay, I really enjoyed this. I was routing for Nova the whole time and I'm happy about things turned out for her.

But that ending. That is one hell of a cliffhanger! But I believe that Aunt Ivy got better and she got out of hospital and was able to watch Nova perform her first solo and Nova and Beth stay best friends forever and everything is right in the world. I refuse to believe anything else!

I think I enjoyed the ending but that tells us about the real Bessie more.

This is a children's book, that teaches young kids that they can be whatever they want despite what the world is telling them, which I appreciate.

Although it wasn't for me, my niece did enjoy it, and the colouring of the pages. So this is definitely a story that would be important for young kids, especially little black girls who've been told they're not enough by society. Worth mentioning, I think, I love how Bessie's hair was drawn!

TW: ableist slurs, rape-y comments (characters talking about getting with a woman when she's passed out/drunk)

I really, really, really enjoyed this book, I did. I'm not surprised I enjoyed it, I love these type of things. I love the way its written, the pacing and the characters and just everything. And there was this thing the writer did where, even though the POV changed, the reader had a clear picture of characters (I don't know how to describe it properly, but that was a cool thing to do that I don't see being done often).

The one thing that I really, really, really disliked about this book where the two times characters made comments about having sex with a woman whole she's passed out/drunk and the time where the big bad threatened to get a character raped. I REALLY hated having to read that.

But otherwise this was really nice to read.

CW: ableist slurs

Okay, I will say that this is an enjoyable read, I did like it and at times could get lost in the story, but it had issues that could not be ignored.

1. Sometimes I had no idea what was going on. Like I'd be reading along and then something would happen and I'd be so confused about what was going. Like, I don't know if I wasn't concentrating enough or what, but there were times where I'd have to reread a section because I felt like I missed something important.

2. Some things were explained enough. Like the communication thing between kindred, is it like a Skype thing or what, like I couldn't understand it. And how is Adrian connected to his Vegas family? Like how do they know each other.

3. Some things were over explained. Like clothing, too much explaining went into clothing. And celebrity name dropping, too much celebrity and brand name dropping. Describing something like “my DKNY luggage” is not necessary, and describing every song that's being played, and the details of every item of clothing, unnecessary.

4. Some of the exchanges between characters was kind of cringe, especially when the bad guys were interacting with the good. Some of the villain lines were just too much, like they're almost comical instead of scary.

5. The ending. The ending felt so choppy and random. The last chapter was too much without enough time. The story, as far as we knew, was about two people, but then a third person was added and then there were two male side characters who confused me. Like I don't know, everything got really choppy and confusing by the last chapter. I couldn't put together why thing went on the direction they did, like did I miss something that had been said in the rest of the book? And the Epilogue was just as confusing as the final chapter. Usually Epilogue are supposed to kind of roundup everything, give us some closure while setting us up for another book (I hope there is another book because there are so many questions that weren't answered: ie Adrian's Vegas Family) but this one didntdo that. It confused me kor than anything.. Is the Epilogue a setup for the next book, is it going to be the prologue of another book. Like I didn't understand that part.

Overall, this wasn't a bad book. I did like it, an as mentioned before could get lost in it. I just wish there were better explanations in some things and less in others.

Slay Me

I actually like this one. It's an ARC so it isn't completely 100, but it's good. It's funny and nice and as the story goes on the characters become likeable. It's pretty well put together but then kind of loses its way again with another dragon attack and the sex both times was kind of described so weirdly it was kind of awkward to read.

I think the biggest issue I have with this is that it seems a bit rushed, as though there's not enough breathing time. I wanted to know about Yelena and Razac, know they're history from before all this, especially Razac. There's so much that could've been learned about his history.

I'll admit, at first I wasn't into it. There was something tiring about the prose of the story, as though I'd read it many time before, but it got better as I read on. Yelena is strong will and she does seem to fall a bit under the 'not like other girls' thing, but she's funny and sarcastic and although she's only human, she seems to be able to keep up with Razac.

And Razac. At first I was kind of Meh about it, like I knew how his character was supposed to come across like, but it was falling short. I was low-key disappointed. But the story went on and he turned out not to be exactly like I imagined he'd be. Razac is actually pretty funny and hella sarcastic. There's a softness to him that I wish would've been explored more. I want to know so much more about him, especially before the events of the book. I want to know: who was Razac before Yelena.

I live for the enemies to lovers prose in books and this is one of those books. I just wish that there had been more, yah know, that there'd been more time to explore the enemies to reluctant allies to friends to lovers thing, it would've slayed my heart to watch it come to life.

Over all this is a good story and quiet enjoyable and I'd possibly read it again.

3/5

Sold to a Wolf

I was kind of disappointed by this one. It isn't at the level of Slay Me. Darla and Baine are okay characters but I wasn't really routing for either of them. There was something superficial about the characters, like they were half thought out.

There's BDSM in the story and I wish there'd been more negotiation talk before they actually got down to it. I wanted scenes were they discussed what they want, what they're comfortable with, what they expect from the other. Most of the time it just felt like it was thrust at us (excuse the pun). I wanted a little more.

The sex descriptions in this one are a lot better than in Slay Me though, I will admit that, but that was pretty much it. The rest of the story kind of fell short, it felt choppy and rushed. Like, there were good ideas to it, but they weren't explored enough. I think the thing that bothered me most was how lacking all the other characters were. It's a short story, yes, but there could've still been some development to the mentioned characters. The only character I actually liked as the mom, she seems a little more real then all the other characters.

Another thing that I didn't enjoy so much was Darla's consistent judging of other women. There's a particular scene where she meets an old high school friend and there judginess. Th whole scene seems so random and awkward I still don't understand it. I feel if Darla and the friend were emote familiar with each other, and it wasn't ome random meeting, then it would've meant more, but with the way it was executed, it fell short.

A part of the story that I did enjoy a lot though was the switching of dominance between Darla and Baine. That was unexpected and wish it was explored more because that's something different, a man used to dominating finding that he's just as comfortable and happy being dominated. Like I needed that!

Over all, this was meh at best.

Abducted by Dragons

I didn't hate it, but I didn't really like it that much either.

Abducted by Dragons seems so rushed and choppy, even more so than the other stories. Everything moved too fast. This is a story I think I would've appreciated more if it been made a full length rather than a Novella.

I didn't really like Tatyana. There was something superficial about her as a character. It's like everything wrong was happening to her and she just wasn't giving me the reactions I'd expect. She was kind of two dimensional, her character kind of dull. Like I wanted to see more of her kicking and screaming and demanding answers from her kidnappers, but she was mostly just going with the flow of things so easily.

Like, I don't know how I'd react to being kidnapped and told I'd need to sleep with some dude to save dragon-kind, but I think there'd be a lot of crying and inner screaming, and just general panicking. Tatyana didn't really do much of that. Like she was sad and she was scared, I guess, but it wasn't at a deep level.

And I know this is only a short story, but I needed more of her parents reaction. Like your kid got kidnapped by a fricking dragon king and you just...... accept it? Nah. I wanted a little more fighting and arguing and 'not my child, you beast!'

And speaking of, I wasn't really a fan of Garen either, like I didn't care much for him so much that I couldn't even really remember his name. Maybe if Tatyana had asked more questions of him and I'd gotten to know him more, I would like him. But I wasn't given enough to route for him. He's the main love interest, I need more than just: he's the dragon king who's super rich and super powerful.

I liked Brock and Ash way more than Garen and I really wanted to see more of Brock being the hard as a shell but actually super squishy inside character and Ash being the young guy who thinks he's the shit but is actually kind of awkward and just wants to impress the older guys. They're also kind of just there, but they're side characters in a Novella I don't need to know much about them.

And something that really confused me, like a lot: how is the prophecy mentioned so much but is like not explained enough. Like, okay, I get it, but at like a superficial level, but it was never explained more, never dug deeper into. Like I wanted to know more, how does Tatyana benifit, does she get powers or something cool, later on or is she just going to be dragons mate and nothing more. Like how does she help save the world, beside making Garen stronger, is that her only role or is there more to it.

Like, I feel like this story has plotholes in it. Like it's a well thought out story with poor execution. I really do wish it was a full length novel rather than a Novella. I really wanted to know more than what I got. I wanted to watch as Tatyana and Garen got to know each other more and fall in love. Like, they're start wasn't a great one, but I would've loved to see how it was handled going from 'you just snatched me off the street you asshole' to 'you snatched me off thge street you asshole but you're not a bad person'.

And I wanted to know more about the opossing dragon fraction. Like they were mentioned for tention or something, but never more than that. And every time they showed up to try counter kidnap Tatyana if cringe coz it was so awkward and just seemed shoved. I don't even know how to explain it, but it wasn't well executed. Like the bad guys were used to show that the people who'd originally kidnapped Tatyana were actually the good guys and she should trust them more because they're the only ones that can protect her. Like, it's kind of awkward the way it's done.

So much in this story fell short because of its length and it hurts because I feel if it was given more time, spaced out a little more, it would've been so much better!!

2/5

Overall the ideas are good but the execution and the length make the stories seem choppy and unfinished. They aren't bad story and are quiet enjoyable. I just wish that each one was it's own full length novel because  think that that would give the characters more convincing growth and make us fall in love with them more, route for them harder.

CW: ableist slurs

Nah, this wasn't the one for me.

I couldn't take this book seriously, I couldn't take the characters seriously. KT's narration is week and I wanted to scream more then anything. For most of the book I was considering DNFing, but it's a short book so I pushed through.

Celebrity name dropping bothers the heck out of me, and here it was so overdone, like I couldn't. And I felt like the “x looks like y-celebrity” was such a cop-out for me the writer to describe characters. I wasn't a fan of that kind of chatacyer description.

And I don't mind that KT loves old music, I really don't. But it feels more like the writer trying to preserve their love for music of their times then KT liking the music, I don't know why.

And the road trip. My gosh, the road trip! I. Couldn't!

Like I can see a few things going wrong in a road trip, I can believe the characters getting tricked and having their car stolen, but lmao, things were so convinent for them. Like, it felt like they were only in dramatic situations just to add drama to a bland plot. There was no reason for some of the things they went through.

And that 806 908 thing, laaaawardt no. The book is literally called 806 but that didn't even last half the book. The book would've been better called Lucky Sperm Club (I mean I know it can't actually be called that, but that would've been more appropriate). And the whole “I'm not your father but I met him randomly in the road”. Ha-kant!

And the ending was so predictable I wanted to roll my eyes. And Dylan is a creep and he really did a cross-country following a girl who already told him 100xs that she doesn't want him. NO LORD!

This book was bleg. And I know I sound angry, and I'm sorry, but I was so excited about this and didn't get what I was expecting and I suppose that that's my own fault. But yeah, I was really disappointed in this book!

The take away for this is: aw, that was nice. I liked it, and at one point could not put it down despite desperately needing to sleep.

I think the thing that made me kind of end up not loving it as much as I thought I would is how some of the things turned out. I'm not sad about the way things turned out, and probably would've hated any other ending, but yah know....

It was Jonathon and Makenzie. Like, it's just those two characters that got me iffy. Makenzie dating Jonathon after all the shit Jonathon put Wyatt through, lol no. Like, he forgave them coz and all but nah, by the end I was not here for them. I don't trust them. Wyatt deserves a better best friend if I'm being honest, he deserves someone who doesn't deliberatly hurt him by dating someone who's tormented him for years. Like nah, not here for that.

But other than that, this was a good read and I enjoyed it and I'm glad everything worked out in the end and it has a happily ever after and in a perfect world Wyatt and Martin love their best gay lives.

Oh, and I appreciate that although Wyatt was more focused on Lincoln being gay, he didn't end there, he did mention that Lincoln might be bi (even though it always seemed like an afterthought). So yah. Cool read, definitely.

That was one hell of a ride y'all. And now I need to recover and prepare my heart for the next book.

I love it, I love the characters. I love the way that this book is written, seeing the different characters grow into themselves, seeing them start as one thing and become another right before my eyes.

Wow. This was beautiful and I can't wait for the next book and I'm so nervous and excited for it. Like come break my heart Mimi Yu.

CW: mention of vomiting

I loved this so much. Simple and quick to read with a fully hashed plot. I love the characters, flaws and all and I like that everything worked out in the end. This is definitely a good read for people who don't do it often enough, don't have the time, or are trying to get into it. I enjoyed the plot and I liked the characters. Even though I low-key want a second book I know it would ruin this well done plot.
