So glad this volume has the focus back on Mafuyu and Uenoyama, still think an open conversation could solve the struggle of their relationship but considering everything Mafuyu is going through, mentally and emotionally with his grief and trauma, I completely understand why that is such a hard thing to do.
Seeing Ugetsu at the end and his chapter really hit me. I really love this character and I want nothing but the best for him so seeing how he is doing warms my heart.
Not sure how to feel about this volume... I really like Hiragi but Shizusumi is such a strange character to me, I wish some developments had been slower so I could better digest him as a character, his actions and relationship with Hiragi. Add to that the sexual assault scene(s) I'm wondering how I should feel about them? Anything other than weirded out seems out of place. In the other hand with the other couple, I really think Mafuyu and Uenoyama should sit down and talk to each other. This is basically how I feel regarding this volume as a whole, like, let's all calm down and have a chat first.
Nice seeing Ugetsu though! I'm so glad he seems to be doing well. Can't wait to see him again.
To be honest a few things could take the rating down a bit, said things being Akihiko and Haruki's relationship development (I simply can't get behind it for multiple reasons, one being how fast it was) but everything else was so good and well done that I'll keep the high rating.
Ugetsu's storyline is absolutely a punch in the gut for me. His relationship with Akihiko is probably one of the most layered ones I've ever read and that says a lot, the emotional depth, the unhealthy aspects of it, the very human aspects of it, the love, because they sure love each other a lot... And just how sad it is that Akihiko don't know of said love? That everything that Ugetsu felt and thought of him were kept hidden behind walls and pain? When Akihiko was talking about how he was only a friend with benefits, I wanted to scream and when he said that he couldn't love Ugetsu anymore because it hurt too much, I wanted to cry. Between these two there was, is, so much love and so much pain...
Also, I hope we get much more of Ugetsu eventually and I'm very interested in his budding friendship with Mafuyu. They sure understand each other in way no one else around them does, so it's nice to see them help each other.
In one hand there are plenty that I really enjoyed, hence the rating, but in the other hand I simply cannot move past the sexual assault/dubious consent scene because I believe it to be uncalled for and unnecessary and the progression of the relationship could have happened without it, and also because of how fast it was brushed past it. There's so many wrong things with the development of Akihiko and Haruki's relationship (including said scene) and I find myself wondering if I'm the only one that is bothered by this, if we go by how much they are loved by seemingly most readers, but I digress.
On the positives, I will say that I love Ugetsu as a character and his complexity is what makes him the most interesting to me, along with Mafuyu, so I really enjoy the chapters that are heavy on his presence and he is definitely one of the best points of this volume.
