Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss's Glossier by Marisa Meltzer

informative reflective fast-paced
I bought this book unexpectedly, I started reading shorty after and I liked it way more than I ever thought I would. I didn’t purchase this book hoping to be reading about an exposé on the beauty brand Glossier. I had to get this book when I saw it at the bookstore simply because I have been obsessed and fascinated with Glossier for YEARS and, somehow, I could never quite say why or how come.

This is not the best non-fiction read you will do, neither it will be super groundbreaking, but it was easily entertaining and I learnt many things in very few pages. The writing is fluid, understandable if you know nothing about business, even if maybe a tad challenging if beauty and skincare mean little to you. I really liked the way Meltzer explained the birth, rise and growth of Glossier throughout these years. The highs & lows, what truly worked and what definitely didn’t.

Of course that the icing on the cake for me was the end to the mystery of my fascination: Glossier was always a skincare & beauty brand, with a founder that insisted in seeing it as a tech company. It might seem a simple thing, but it speaks volumes - from the campaign ads, the customer experience, product development, business growth & investment, and much more - it’s now obvious to me. I find interesting when two worlds converge in the most unlikely fashion, and work!

This book is too specific to recommend, however if you like these topics I would say to go for it. The audiobook is also great and can almost be listened to as a podcast series.
