(re-read on audio) [ The audio narration was ok, not a ton of differentiation between the main characters when speaking which sometimes made it hard to follow]

For a short novella this really was packed with a full story and well-rounded characters. Although the attraction starts very instantaneously, I enjoyed that the romance was a bit slower to form that I predicted. Bonus points for a dog meet-cute.

Really enjoyed listening to Zadie Smith's accompanying analysis of the only short story Toni Morrison wrote, which she posits makes this story even more significant. This one is really a thinker.

I love P. Djèlí Clark's ability to weave history into fantasy. I love to learn little bits of history while reading the immersive lush settings Clark is able to create in such short novellas.
